The lit match fell upon the wood pile.

The flames erupted up from the earth.

I sat as the shadows danced awhile.

The fire entertained for what it's worth.

An unknown man sat down beside me.

"Who are you supposed to be?" I asked.

He only said, "I come from the sea."

The stench of ocean could not be masked.

He leaned forwards to warm up his hands.

My eyes could not fight the urge to stare.

He stomped and down fell the grains of sand.

I know that I know him from somewhere.

I said, "I feel like we've met before."

"I come from the sea," he repeated.

He got up and walked back to the shore.

I'm glad he did not remain seated.

I tended the fire and felt a pain.

My stomach tightened into a knot.

It was like my thoughts had stabbed my brain.

I got up and chased him like a shot.

I have seen that face and knew that voice.

I can not let him escape my grasp.

I must give chase, this is the right choice.

I'll hold him like the bite of an asp.

I reached the shore, but none were around.

The land was only a vacant lot.

No sign of him, nor steps on the ground.

He must not have been the one I thought.

Tears began to fall down from my face.

I turned to go get myself some sleep.

Then his words echoed throughout that space.

By my ankles, I was dragged down deep.
