A friend made that cover. Isn't it beautiful?🥹🩷

The time on the wall clock said eight thirty, which meant I had less than an hour to prepare my room for when Aarin and Matteo arrived. I still hadn't told my parents about Matteo coming along and I feared how they'd react when he came.

Mom would definitely give me those African mother's signature side eye. Yep.

🎶 Smoking out the window oh-ooh-oh

Singing "how could you do this to me?"

When I thought that you belonged to only me,

        But I was wrong

        You belonged

        To everybody! 🎶

I picked up all my dirty clothes and placed them in the laundry basket. I left my room and went to the laundry room downstairs to put my clothes in the washing machine and hang them. I returned to my room afterwards and headed straight to the washroom to take a long shower. I was already fully dressed, in a casual baggy top and short shorts. My hair was packed in a bun and I tied a pink silky scarf on my head rolling it into a bun at the back.

I got a text from Riri telling me she was outside my gate and I quickly put on my ducky slippers and rushed downstairs. We didn't have a gateman because our gate was automatic. I clicked the button and opened the gate for them, listening to the sound of tyre on gravel. I heard the sound of a door opening and shutting and then my best friend's voice obnoxiously loud.

"Where's my best friend! Come here, bitch! let me give you a hugggg." I giggled as I ran out the door and ran to my best friend. We wrapped our arms around each other and swung from side to side.

        I really did missed her.

"I missed you so much!" Riri cooed as we pulled back. I smiled brightly at her, nodding my head. I turned my attention to the car when I heard a door slam shut again.

"Wow." I blurted out, immediately regretting it. Riri giggled beside me.

"I told you." She sing-songed. Aarin's new boyfriend was the definition of drop dead gorgeous. His prominent features were his chocolate dark skin, curly hair, and beautiful long lashes. He was ripped alright. And when he smiled at me I noticed he had the whitest set of teeth and the most attractive dimples.

        Well damn!

"Hello, Fayth. You have a really beautiful home." He said whilst looking around my compound. I stared wide eyed at him because I didn't know how to reply at that moment.

"Omg, yes! This is a freaking mansion, Fayth! You're living the dream now." Riri gushed from beside me.

"Yeah, I guess." I chuckled. " Come, let's go in. The party isn't until six in the evening." I told them, grabbing Riri by the hand and pulling her with me inside. Matteo followed behind us chuckling everytime Aarin saw something and gasped dramatically.

"Auntie!" Riri removed her hands from mine and ran towards my mother. Mom laughed and wrapped her arms around the giddy girl. Her eyes shone with happiness as the two hugged, and I watched as her expression shifted slowly into a look of confusion.

"Who's this?" My eyes widened a bit as I acknowledged the boy beside me again. I stared helplessly from Matteo to my mother, my tongue tied.

Well shit, what should I say?

"Umm, auntie, he's our friend." Mom raised an eyebrow at her not at all believing her lie.

"How come I've never met him. I've met all your friends, Fayth." She turned to me with a sharp gaze.

Damn you, Aarinola Zakariya!

"He just joined PH recently! Yeah, he joined us last year and the three of us just clicked." I rubbed my temples as Riri continued her lie. I hardly thought Mom was buying any of it.

"You know how your father and I feel about having boys in the  house, Fayth."  Mom said to me.

I sighed, " I know mom, It slipped my mind. I'm sorry. It's just for today and tomorrow morning though."

"Please?" I added, pouting my lips and staring at her with wide eyes.

Act like Lase.
Be adorable.

Mom sighed, "Alright. I'll talk to your father when he gets home."

"Thank you thank you." Riri pulled my mother in for a hug again and Matteo smiled.

"I promise not to cause any trouble ma'am." He said.

"You better not," She pulled Riri away from her gently, " What's your name, son?"

"Matteo ma'am. Matteo Kainene Osaji." He replied.

        ~•~

The three of us moved to my bedroom upstairs and Riri continued to gush over how big my house was. I pushed open the doors to my room and we were hit with a wave of coldness. I made my way towards the AC and turned it off. The weather was somewhat cold and the room was starting to feel like  I was being kept in a freezer.

"Wait til you see Aaliyah's house. I'm sure her's would be more glamorous."

"Ohmygosh, yes! By the way what do you plan on wearing for the party?" She sat down beside me on the bed, and Matteo leaned on the wall across us, watching us.

Not much of a talker, I see.

"Mom got me this black dress a few weeks back. Spaghetti hand, silver rhinestones, a rope at both sides that makes it shorter if you want it to." I described the dress to her.

We talked about a lot of things, and Riri filled me in on PH's daily drama. I doubled over in laughter when Riri announced Talia, our set's 'mommy G.O' , had gotten pregnant for a corper that started teaching at the school recently.

"Imagine. The girl's always forming holier than thou and it turns out she's even badder than me." Riri hissed, folding her legs and leaning onto Matteo. Matteo sat on the left side of my bed, Riri in the middle and me on the right.

"Badder isn't a word, babe." Matteo reiterated. Riri hissed again.

"Pele o, as per English police." She sent him a side eye. I pressed my lips together to stop myself from laughing.(Sorry. Because you're an English officer now?)

"But seriously, that girl has guts o. To be sleeping with one of our substitutes. A teacher!" The smile on my face faltered. I involuntarily thought about what I saw the other day and my frown deepened.

So much for a trouble, drama free semester.
