"Go and visit her. Talk to her, unnie. Don't be stupid."
Chaewon's mouth hung a bit open as she stared at Minju, unable to process the older girl's words. She didn't know what she was going to do. Her mind didn't know what she would follow. Minju's words or her own confused brain?
Surely, she had to choose one of them.
But Minju gently pushes her forward once more. She almost stumbles and trips on her own feet but she holds herself up, staring at Minju once again. The younger girl smiles at her, "You're wasting time."
"Minju, I don't know what to do."
"We both know that you know exactly what to do."
Chaewon takes in a shaky breath before she finally feels her feet moving.
She wasn't walking, no, she was running. She doesn't know why she's running, she was only running because her heart said so. Her heart told her to run and when Minju smiled up at her, she knew she had to trust the younger girl on this one.
She had to go and see Yunjin.
—
The moment Chaewon arrived at ACE Academy's infirmary, everyone was outside in the hallways. They were crowding around the door but they all seemed to have no plans on entering the room.
Chaewon met eyes with all her friends along with the other theater club members. "Chaewon." Sieun called out and Chaewon slowly approached the door while still looking at her friends.
"Is she inside?"
They all look at her, as if hesitant to speak. Sakura clears her throat, "What?"
"Yunjin." She says it as if it was a relief to her. As if being able to call Yunjin by her first name brought her peace. It rolled off her tongue without any signs of hatred in her tone and it was a new feeling she didn't know she would ever feel.
"She is," Soobin breathes out, "But she doesn't really want anyone to enter right now..."
The short-haired girl bit her lip as her hand hovered on top of the doorknob. She can't miss this opportunity. She can't just walk away now...
So, she disregards all the voices calling out her name and she opens the door, immediately entering before closing it behind her. She heard all her friends calling out to her from outside but she didn't look back. She won't stop now.
She hears rustling behind the closed curtain around the bed at the very corner of the room. Upon realizing that no one else was there, she goes and locks the door just in case her friends try to barge in and take her away.
The bed creaks slightly as she takes a few steps towards it. She knows Yunjin was behind the curtains. Who else could it be?
Once she was closer to the curtain, she let out a shaky breath before finally pulling the curtain out of the way.
Chaewon's eyes meet Yunjin's big brown ones and they stare at each other.
This was the first time they looked at each other ever since they got back from the resort. That spark, that electrifying feeling that she was waiting to feel when Minju held her arm was there. Except Minju wasn't there and it was Yunjin, sitting helplessly on the bed, looking absolutely devastated to see Chaewon.
Her brows were furrowed, her orange hair was a mess, almost looking like a bird's nest. Chaewon wonders if they were still soft and smooth to the touch but she doesn't dare touch Yunjin's hair.
As Chaewon stares at Yunjin, she sees the bandages on Yunjin's arm and leg. There were bruises on her arm and she looked tired.
Yunjin's lower lip quivered as she tried to say something but nothing came out. She looked like a mess but why did Chaewon feel like a gust of wind just came and went past her, giving her that calming feeling as if she was in a field of flowers.
Like she was at home. Like she was safe.
It really wasn't Minju then... it was Yunjin all along.
If Chaewon was feeling all of these emotions even while Yunjin looked so pathetic in her current state, she must really be-
Yunjin turns her head and avoids Chaewon's gaze. She felt so stupid under Chaewon's gaze, she felt like she was a loser. Chaewon's eyes softened, "I saw what happened."
The younger girl doesn't respond.
"How are you feeling?"
Chaewon knew Yunjin wouldn't respond but she still tried. She wanted to hear Yunjin's voice.
She was about to ask Yunjin another question when the girl suddenly leaned over and reached for something inside her bag on the other end of the bed. Chaewon only watched as Yunjin wordlessly rummaged through her things.
The older girl wondered what Yunjin was looking for. She even thought about helping Yunjin look for it when the redhead finally sat up properly, gripping something in her hands.
Yunjin takes Chaewon's hand with one of her own. She settles her fist in Chaewon's palm before opening her hand and handing Chaewon whatever it was that she was holding.
Once Chaewon feels the object in her palm, realization hits her. She immediately looks down and comes face to face with their egg baby, fully intact. It wasn't broken, it had the same stupid curly ginger hair that Yunjin drew. It was whole, not a single crack can be seen and Chaewon starts doubting her eyes for a moment.
How was the egg still intact? She saw it crack- she saw it burst as Yunjin cracked it on that random guy's head at the resort. How was it still there?
"It's..."
"I never broke it." Yunjin whispers, "I broke a different egg on his head. Yujin and the others had brought eggs to prank our other teammates, I just didn't think my actions through when I broke the egg that I was holding."
Chaewon stared at her, shocked.
"Yunjin-"
"You should go."
Yunjin had looked away once more. She looked sad and ashamed... the older girl didn't know what to tell her. She didn't know what to say to comfort her, to assure her that she was no longer mad... she didn't know how to apologize for saying such things to her at the beach.
It was as if the sight of Yunjin not wanting to look at her had taken away her ability to form proper sentences and thoughts.
She gripped the egg in her hands before slowly turning around and finally leaving.
The halls were crowded with everyone waiting for Chaewon to come out. They all came up to her, asking her many questions about Yunjin but all she could say to them was, "She's doing alright."
It seems that everyone noticed the change in her mood and aura. It made everyone shut up. She was thankful they hadn't asked anymore because she was still processing her thoughts.
She sat down beside Sakura and they all stayed there silently until the coach came back to tell them the news.
Yunjin was to be pulled out of the game.
Everyone had protested and some were in shock. Some were in disbelief. They couldn't believe that she was going to be gone for the rest of the game.
And underneath all of their protests and noises of disapproval, Chaewon heard her heart shatter for Yunjin.
