Ten years later

"Daryl! You're finally here, we've been waiting for a long time."

"Hey, great seeing your guys here! I remember it was just yesterday we were getting dungeon duty and chasing seven-legged forest bunnies."

"Time really flies when you're having fun."

"Fun? Maybe for you guys! I'm just glad we're all knights now. I wouldn't have come back to the academy if it weren't for the wedding!"

"Says the person who cried most about leaving the academy. The wedding's just a reason for all of us to finally gather here together."

"I'm so happy Captain Llewyn invited us to his brother's wedding! It's going to be gorgeous! And we finally get to meet the captains' kids."

"I didn't even know they were mates. I almost still can't believe. You must be heartbroken."

"Actually no. I'm happy for our captains and anyway I realized that I needed to take a step back from all of that, you know?"

"Really? So who was that omega you were hanging out with yesterday?"

"Oh shut up!"

"I'm not interested in romance at all but you got to admit the captains are so cute when they are together!"

"This also explains why they always seemed to disappear for short amounts of time! Remember that one time in the troll dungeons!"

"Oh and at the edge of the forest!"

"I remember! Those were the days..."

"Well now it's better than ever too. Our Captains are happy together, omegas are slowly but steadily gaining rights, our kingdom is the most powerful on the continent, anyone is free to mate with anyone AND these noodles are soo good!"

"True that, King Basil is a genius! Did you guys know that he apparently already has a lover?"

"Who could that be? The prince is always with his guard and he seems to be fully devoted to ruling the kingdom. He also said he had no plans of having children and appointed his niece as the next heir."

"I guess that's true but my mom is friends with the baker's daughter's best friend's uncle's husband who once met the King. He totally thought the king already had a lover."

"Rumors are crazy. Anyway we better not drink too much. The wedding is two days and we're going back to the academy tomorrow."

"You bet! I can't wait to see the academy again! When are the captains returning?"

"The day before the wedding, I think. I heard they're accompanying Captain Llewyn's parents who are coming back here to settle down."

"How do you know all of this? Ever since we've got our posts, none of us have been near the capital but you always know everything!"

"Oh I have a friend named Jade, a beta, who works at the Captain's brother's house. We met when he was trying to set up a stall for his husband. We write to each other occasionally."

"You have always been good at making friends!"

"Yeah you could befriend a dragon or a serpent even. Oh remember that time we had a competition with the students from Ranunculus! We were all itching for a fight while you went and made friends with them!"

"Even so, you guys are honestly the best of friends I could ever ask for!"

"Awww!"

"That's so cheesy!"

"Guess the drinks are starting to talk."

"I know you guys are touched! Get in here!"

"Umm I really don't like hugging but fine."

"Ow ow you're stepping on my foot."

The Kingdom of Amaryllis prospered in the continuing decades and centuries protected by the legacy of its ancestors. Now if you ever find yourself magically whisked away to this enchanted kingdom, you might like to stop at any of the many academies where you will see a portrait of two gallant knights side by side with records detailing their achievements. But if you wish to know more about them you would like to make a quick visit to one of the libraries. In the back jammed between other fairytales and fantasies, you might just find a book with their story. The story of two inseparable partners and mates.

(Or you could find the Hawthorne mansion and ask their descendants yourself, but that wouldn't be quite so dramatic now, would it?)
