"Do these pants make my ass look small?" Gia asks.

She is turned towards Kate and me, holding up her shirt, revealing the small of her back.

"Eh. I like the first one better," I respond.

"I second that," Kate chimes in.

Gia's body deflates and she waddles into the closet to change back into her first option: a black thigh-length skirt.

Gia's outfit includes a black skirt, a white tube top, military boots, plus an open varsity sweater.

Kate's includes a white-sleeved mini shirt, jeans, and some shoes I've never seen before (must be a country custom).

I, on the other hand, have on a white crop top, a leather jacket, dark jeans, and Converse. Layered on my neck sits four necklaces. One was stolen from Ella, one thrifted, one a gift from Addison, and one from my mom. I debate ripping off the latter.

Me and the girls decided to match in a way. We each wear white undershirts with different cover-ups.

I allow my hair to fall down my shoulders for once.

I stare at myself through my iPhone camera.

"Hey, Kate, do you have any waterproof mascara?" I ask.

"Why waterproof?"

"I have watery eyes," I assure.

In truth, I've never worn any other mascara. Ever since the night mom was admitted, ever since my face was blacked due to non-waterproof mascara, I'd made that vow.

Waterproof, in case of crying, just in case.

"Mmm. Check that drawer," She points.

We all decide to get ready at Kate's. Her dad is in Tennessee for some business and her mom is outside tending to her many, many farm animals.

"Okay, how do I look?" Gia says, coming out of the closet.

"Total slay," Kate says.

Gia twirls in excitement and lets out a tiny squeal.

A vibration comes from my phone on Kate's bed as I'm eyes wide open, mouth wide open in Kate's vanity.

"Who's that from?" I ask.

"Silas Winky Face," she smirks.

A smile spreads across my face as I finish up my lashes.

I return it to its place in the drawer as I make my way to my phone.

It's 8:11 when I check.

Silas: Hey, going to the party?

I stare at the message for a while before I reply:

Vittoria: Yeah.

I take five breaths before his next message comes through.

Silas: Sweet. C'ya.

Something tells me tonight is gonna be wild.

...

The car vibrates on top of gravel as we arrive at the party's location. It's in a secluded part of town, in a neighborhood of brick and stone.

The roads are bumpy, causing my phone to slide out of my lap and onto the car's floor.

"My brain is gonna be scrambled after this fucking road," I mutter.
