Chapter 18

Alex's POV:

The night of the gala:

"Hold still  Alex"

"It's not my fault you poked my eye" 

We were at Rae and Ming's house getting ready for the gala tonight. The boys were already ready and waiting downstairs for us. Rae was just finishing up our make up.

"Alright, one more aaand...done. Check yourself out." She steps out of the way and I am speechless. I can't even recognise myself. When I turn back to Rae she's looking at her freshly manicured nails. "Rae I-" "I know cupcake, I know." She claps her hands together and says "Now,  let's go make your man drool. " And practically shoves to the door.

The boys talking dies down when they hear our footsteps. They turn their heads towards us and their eyes widen. Kai open and closes his mouth and I giggle.

They both step towards us and holds their hands out to us. I take Kai's and he pulls me in and kisses me hard and long. When we pull away he puts his forehead on mine and says breathily " You're so beautiful 천사. 너무 아름다워요. 너무 사랑해요" (angel. So beautiful. I love you so much)

"Ready to go?" Ming's voice interrupts us. We look at him and I nod. We all make our way towards the car and go to the gala.

When we arrive Kai helps me out of car. I put his arm through mine and he kisses my cheek and we walk into the hall.

When we enter we headed towards our table and sat down. Some random business man comes up to Kai and starts talking to him in Korean. I start to look around and one thing I saw made me do a double take... and then drop my jaw.

Kai had just finished talking to the businessman and I tapped him arm. "Kai?" He hums and looks at me. "Look over by the bar." I look pointedly at the place where I am talking about.

He looks and his eyes widen too. "Is that... is that what I think it is?" "Yep." Jake and Mingi sitting together at a table. "No way" He breathes 

I was just about to respond when a voice reached us and Kai stiffened, his calm demeanour gone. "Kai" Mr. Parks said. Kai looks at his father and says cooly "Father"

Mr.Parks looks behind Kai towards me and he scowls and say "Oh... you are here." He straightened the lapels of his suit and tightens his cufflinks.

 He sighed, obviously annoyed at my presence and says more to himself "그 사람은 결국 정신을 차리겠지" ( He will come to his senses eventually) but Kai heard it. He shot up out his chair and almost yells "그만 좀 할래! Alex는 내 여자친구이고 나는 그녀를 사랑해요. 나는 완전히 정신이 나갔고 민기와 결혼하지 않을 것이다. 그러니 그냥 극복하세요!" (Will you just stop! Alex is my girlfriend and you have to accept that. I am fully in my senses and will not marry Mingi. So just get over it!) 

He grabs my hand gently and leads me outside to the car. The drive to Kai's house consisted of silence and me trying to soothe him by stroking his hand that was on my lap.

When we got inside we went up to his room and leaned on the dresser after undoing his tie, staying in silence for a second before I went up to him and rubbed my hands up and down his arm. "Hey Kai, it's alright" He whips around and starts pacing. "No it's not angel. It's not" HIs voice broke slightly on the last part.

"What did your dad say to you?" I sat down on the bed and looked up at him still pacing. He stilled and let out a deep sigh. "He said that I would 'come to my senses eventually" 

He sat down next to me and gathers me close and just holds me as he says " He's been like this ever since mom died" "What happened to her?" 

He stays silent for so long I thought he wasn't going to respond before he said "She had cystic fibrosis. She was fine in the beginning but over time - " He pauses and swallows thickly " - it got worse, and worse until one day, when I had just turned 14,  We got the call that she had died.And ever since he's been like this" 

A tear dropped from my eye and I sniffle. He strokes a hand over my head and tilts my head up to face him. He lays a featherlight kiss to my forehead and whispers "Hey, no crying. It's ok" as he wipes a tear from my cheek.

"I can't believe you went through that Kai" He smiles softly and says "It's alright love, it happened a long time ago. Now" He stands up, grabs both of my hands and pulls me towards him "I'm going to first ask you to stay the night and when you accept then we are going to shower and get dressed into comfy clothes and have a movie night and forget tonight" 

I giggle and then we proceeded to do exactly that
