MARIBELLE PARK WAS NOT STUPID. Okay, in her defense, it's not her fault, people come to her specifically for advice. She couldn't help who her mother is and the talents she was given. So, really, if you think about it she should not be punished with border patrol.

Yesterday had started off normal; up an hour and a half before breakfast to get ready, give fashion advice to all of her siblings, eat a small breakfast, training. After training, a small lunch. Classes. After classes, more training, then a small dinner. Nothing unusual, until a camper came to Maribelle screaming at her for "ruining her life" yada yada . . . Maribelle doesn't ruin people's lives, she simply makes them better using her god-given talents. Unfortunately for Maribelle, Reyna — one of the camp praetors — had warned her numerous times about meddling in people's lives, so now Reyna would meddle in hers.

And that's why Maribelle was stuck on border duty with Frank Zhang and Hazel Levesque.

Frank Zhang was like a cuddly koala bear with muscle, he had a baby face that didn't really match with the muscles and buzzcut. He had a soft spot for the god Apollo as his chosen weapon was a bow and arrow, and he was very good with it. He was sweet and shy, and easy to flirt with. Hazel Levesque was a younger girl, newer to camp as well, she was a daughter of Pluto. Most people avoided her, but Frank never did. Maribelle found her a bit unsettling, but Hazel was too nice to ignore and Maribelle can deal with the off-vibes.

Maribelle wasn't in the same cohort as either of them, but that didn't stop her from making excuses to hang out with the boy.

Maribelle flips her perfectly curled, long brown hair over  her shoulder as she bats her eyes at Frank. He shuffles on his feet awkwardly.

It was no secret that Maribelle had a crush on the newest camp recruit, she wore her heart on her sleeve. Really, she wasn't sure why Reyna saw this as punishment; hanging out with her crush and getting the opportunity to flirt? It was heaven.

"So . . ." Maribelle begins, using the softest, smoothest voice she could muster, "How's your day going?"

Hazel giggles as Frank tries to come up with a response, stuttering through his words, "Oh . . . you know, normal. I mean, good."

"That's good," Maribelle says and this time she tucks her hair behind her ear and takes a step closer, "My day has been so long. Honestly, I couldn't wait til time for border patrol."

"Um, why?"

"Because I get to see you, of course! What kind of punishment is that?"

Frank laughs nervously and Maribelle sighs. He was hopeless. Every flirt, every advance, he usually brushed her off and it only made Maribelle fall harder. She tried to not make him too uncomfortable, she didn't want to push him too far, but Hazel had confided in her that Frank was fine and didn't find her to be too much.
