Paperwork

After entering the Corporal's office, you became so jumpy that even a pen dropping could make you scream.

Which it did.

"Uwah!" you screeched, eyes wild.

The Corporal glared at you. "You have the courage of a field mouse," he scolded, pushing the pen he had set on the desk for you closer.

You blushed. "Sorry, sir...guess you picked the wrong person."

Your superior said nothing. Instead, he eyed you before laying a stack of papers in front of you.

"If you don't want to be here all night, then get started."

Quickly, you set to work. You did not want to be stuck there all night.

It was after a while that you found out you were the only one doing anything. Corporal Levi was just...staring at you.

"Ahem," you quietly cleared your throat to get his attention. "Corporal, aren't you going to sign these papers too?"

The only thing you could do was check boxes or answer the easy questions. It still required the subject's (in this case, the Corporal's) signature, and no way were you going to forge that.

"Are you talking back to your superior?" the ebony-haired man stood up, causing you to flinch.

"N-no sir, it's just that...I can't do all this work by myself." You tried desperately to defend yourself.

"Uh huh..." Blue-gray eyes met your (e/c) ones. "Cadet (l/n), you are hereby sentenced to cleaning duty. At my office. Every night for the rest of the week."

You gulped. No way!

"I...I didn't mean any offense, sir!" you stood up with a salute.

Once again, the Corporal studied you. "Every night." he repeated.

You sighed and got back to work. Corporal Levi sat down and resumed staring at you.

It was creepy, and it made you angry.

"Hey, (f/n)!" you heard Kalista call to you down the hallway.

She must've just got away from Hanji, you thought. These people have no shame! Who knows what time it is.

"Kalista!" you hugged her, although you know she hates that. "Was your night awful too?"

She pushed you off, obviously disgusted. "No," she said with a smile, her blue eyes sparkling. "Hanji and I had fun. We made jokes, and she told me funny stories."

Your ears burned. "That is so unfair," you complained, your shoulders sagging. "Corporal Levi and I did nothing. I worked, and he just stared at me!"

Kalista yanked a strand of your (h/c) locks. "Nothing you can do about it now."

You groaned, remembering what the Corporal had told you. "I have to clean his office all week!"

Kalista blinked at you. "Sucks, but-" she didn't even get to finish.

You flicked her forehead, just in time to cut her off.

Angry at your fellow cadet, you stormed ahead to the female quarters.

You and Kalista bunked together, so you couldn't avoid her. You scowled as she entered the room.

Both of you glanced at each other before you hit the light and crawled into the lower bed.

You could hear the thunk as Kalista plopped on her bed.

"Wait, before you go to sleep!" Kalista leaned over, and it scared you how her eyes were glowing like a cat's in the dark.

"Corporal is a clean freak, right?"

You nodded. Duh.

"Then why would he need someone to clean his office? It should be perfect already."

Your (e/c) orbs widened.

"Go to bed!" you snapped.

Kalista grumbled, "Fine, whiny little..." but you weren't listening.

What she had said was true. Why didn't you realize that sooner?

Maybe some of Hanji's genius was rubbing off on her. The joke made you smile, and you drifted to sleep.
