A dinner party is in full swing. GUESTS MINGLE and enjoy appetizers. Disinterested, Spencer sips on cognac as he watches his wife work the room. He adjusts his tie.
SPENCER (V.O.)
(scoffs)
She lives for this shit... Every other month I gotta wear a clown suit so she can put on for the Joneses... Always the people pleaser.
INT. ATLANTA - JAMES HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT - (MONTAGE)
Spencer slides the covers off his wife and slips his hands in between her thighs. He licks his lips. She moves his hand.
WIFE
(curtly)
Not tonight... I'm tired.
SPENCER (V.O.)
Wish she'd put as much energy into pleasing me... Pleasing my dick.
Spencer fights his pillow and mumbles "Shit, not any night."
INT. JAMES HOUSE - SPENCER'S MAN CAVE - AFTERNOON (MONTAGE)
With a headset on, Spencer PLAYS an intense online game of MADDEN with DARNELL (33), DILLON (22), and CHRIS (33).
DILLON
... Bro, what is ya doing?!
SPENCER
Relax... I got this, fool.
DARNELL
You better... I got a lot of money riding on this.
CHRIS
I'm sayin'.
WIFE (O.S.)
Spencer! Spennnncer!
Spencer cringes and shakes his head.
SPENCER (V.O.)
I used to love the sound of her voice... Especially her screaming my name out in falsetto. Now it's like nails on the chalkboard.
The wife storms in and blocks the TV view. She folds her arms and taps her foot. Spencer groans.
WIFE
Madden?! You're in here playing juvenile games while I'm trying to get dinner started AND help Coryln with his homework. YOUR son.
(huffs)
I mean don't you get enough of football on the field--
The SOUND fades as Spencer blocks his wife out.
SPENCER (V.O.)
Nails on the fucking chalkboard.
INT. SPENCER'S CAR - EVENING - (MONTAGE)
On the PHONE with the wife, Spencer pulls into the driveway.
WIFE (O.S.)
... You need to be more present. Your responsibilities aren't just on the football field.
(off Spencer's silence)
Spencer?! Spencer, are you even listening to me? Sometimes it's like I'm talking to myself. You--
Spencer backs out of the driveway and speeds off.
INT. ATLANTA - RESTAURANT / BAR - NIGHT (MONTAGE)
Three sheets to the wind, Spencer SLAMS his GLASS down.
SPENCER
