"And this is me praying that this was the very first page, not where the story line ends. My thoughts will echo your name until I see you again. These are the words I held back as I was leaving too soon..." ~Enchanted, by Owl City [Cover]

CHAPTER FOUR

Vesper was on her way to her car when she saw three teenagers running like madmen. They were hollering like monkeys and screaming at the top of their lungs.

The running teenagers bumped into a woman and they didn't even look back. The bag of groceries that the woman was holding fell into the ground and pieces of fruits and vegetables rolled into different directions.

"Hey, come back here you pricks!" Vesper yelled to the fleeing teens. What is wrong with the kids these days? she thought. She approached the woman and helped her pick up the groceries from the ground.

"Here," Vesper said, handing the fruits to the woman. The plump, ash blonde-haired woman must be in her late fifties. She has a pair of kind green eyes and her straight hair fell a few inches below her shoulders. She was wearing a pair of black slacks and a gray blouse.

"Thank you very much, dear." The woman smiled at Vesper.

"It's my pleasure ma'am," Vesper replied. "My faith in today's generation is wavering as of the moment," she joked, and the woman laughed a little.

"But really, thank you for helping me. No one pays attention to an old hag nowadays."

"I beg to disagree with that, ma'am. If this is what an old hag looks like then sign me up for it in the future."

The woman slightly blushed at Vesper's compliment. "Why thank you, you beautiful girl. My name is Laine Walsh, by the way." The woman stuck her hand out and Vesper shook it.

"Pretty name for a pretty woman like you, ma'am. I'm Vesper Nichols and I'm very pleased to meet you." Vesper thought that Laine Walsh seemed to be a really nice person and she instantly felt at ease with her.

"Oh, just call me Laine. And Vesper is also a pretty name for a really pretty woman like you. You know, dear, young people don't usually talk to geriatrics like me these days. It seems like you're raised well by your parents."

"Oh, thank you. I'm sure you'd get along with my mother. She's quite gregarious." Vesper smiled at the thought of her parents. She'll be visiting them tomorrow.

"I hope so. You seem like very bright young woman, Vesper. I have a daughter and I'm sure that you two will get along well. She's also very bright."

"That's really nice of you, ma'am. I mean, Laine."

"You know what, Vesper, I haven't had an interesting conversation like this for quite a long time. I'd love to talk to you some more."

"I'd like that too, Laine," Vesper replied. Making new friends was always a nice thing.

"Is it too soon if I invite you for dinner at my house?" Laine hesitantly asked.

"Tonight? I have stuff to do at home. I'm sorry." Vesper needed to bake her special red velvet cupcakes to bring to her parents tomorrow.

"Don't worry dear, it's not tonight. Is next Saturday fine with you? My son is visiting and I think it would be nice to have company."

"Hmm, next Saturday is fine," Vesper replied. Her articles were already finished that's why she's not that busy.
