Yunjin freezes at the girl's question. Out of all the questions, why would Chaewon ask her that? Can't she just ask something else? Or maybe she can just fight Yunjin, start an argument with her, or whatever- anything!
Why did it have to be that?
But then Yunjin remembers that Chaewon is intoxicated, and she relaxes a bit...
She sighs, "I'm not here for anyone." A lie. A big fat lie. Yunjin almost winces at her own words.
Even if Chaewon was drunk, she knew that Yunjin had to be lying. It was evident from the way she said it, to the way her expression changed.
She seems to be a bad liar, but Chaewon rides along, "Then why? Why are you back? Why would you come back? Surely, you would know that your reputation would be... tarnished."
Chaewon felt a slight pang of guilt when she said those words. It must be the alcohol... it must be! Because if she was completely sober, she wouldn't be feeling any guilt at all. She would have probably rubbed it in Yunjin's face. She would have been very mean about it but... just simply thinking about that made her guiltier.
Just why?
She hears the taller girl chuckle beside her, "Fine. That was a lie, you caught me." She sounded defeated but at the same time, her words rang empty. Could it be that she just wanted to get this conversation over with?
Or does she want to avoid this conversation?
But if she wanted to avoid it... she's not really good at diverting attention to a different topic.
"I did come back for someone," Yunjin finally confessed, "But I did miss my friends, too... I'll be leaving again after this year, so you're lucky. You won't have to deal with me anymore."
Chaewon seems to have overlooked the last part. She let the alcohol take over the conversation now as she couldn't fully grasp the soberness that was yet to fight off the liquor in her system.
She scoffs, "What a joke! If you were planning on leaving, you would have done that without prior notice just like before! You would be gone by now."
The taller of the two laughs, "Guess so... but anyway, I'm here for my friends and for Eunchae, of course." she stops and thinks for a moment. Will she really reveal something so monumental to Chaewon?
Is she really willing to give Chaewon just a slight hint as to why she came back?
Well, she was already talking anyway... besides, Chaewon was the one who asked. She was only answering her. It was only normal for her to be, well, honest.
"And maybe I came back for another specific person as well."
"Special person?"
"You could say that," She clears her throat, and a cold wind greets them from the direction of the sea, "I wanted to be her first option in everything."
"Why?"
Chaewon seems to be very invested in this.
"Well, because I wanted to know what it feels like to be chosen by her."
The older girl scoffs beside her, "People always have you as a first option, don't be stupid. Even Sieun and the other theater club members wanted you to be the one to take Jaeyun's spot immediately."
"Yeah? But not this person. It's stupid and corny to hear, but she's not the same as the others. She doesn't think the same way as the others. Sieun and the other members may have thought the same things about me but not this person." She starts playing with the sand underneath her.
