CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

skull rock.

"GOD, WHY HAVEN'T THEY LEFT YET..." JENNIFER GROANED QUIETLY OUT OF FRUSTRATION, HER AND EDDIE  HIDING IN THE SHED WHILST JASON AND HIS FRIENDS SEARCHED INSIDE THE HOUSE. "What are they even doing in there...?" She questioned rhetorically.

"Dustin?" Eddie spoke into the radio again, the two of them still waiting for anyone on the other end to respond. "Please. Are... are you there?" The static echoing through the radio filled the small space, Jennifer looking out the window anxiously whilst Eddie had his back against it. "Never mind." At that, Jennifer turned around, seeing Eddie jump into the boat, gesturing for her to quickly get in.

Eddie grasped tightly onto the oar, Jennifer sitting idle behind him annoyed that she hadn't gotten the chance to look for a second oar. The water was calm, the warm lights from the house behind them casting slight shadows onto the water, though, it was barely noticeable from the middle of Lover's Lake.

Jennifer looked around anxiously, her heart pounding harshly in her chest when her eyes locked onto Jason and Patrick. "Shit..." She murmured. "Eddie...!" She called, though, before he could look, the voice he heard next made his skin crawl.

"Hey, freak!" Jason's voice echoed across the lake, Eddie looking back to see Jason and Patrick walking along the waters edge. "Where do you think you're going?" He yells.

"Who's that?" Patrick questioned, spotting the other figure sitting in the boat alongside Eddie, his eyes straining.

"I dunno, now come on, you scared of some water? Let's go!" Jason called out uncaring of who Eddie was with in that moment, instead focused on chasing after the long-haired boy.

Eddie passed the oar to Jennifer, the girl continuing to row the boat whilst he attempted to get the small motor started. The engine spluttered, Eddie practically begging the thing to start whilst Patrick and Jason pulled off their outer clothes, rushing into the water.

After having no luck starting the motor, Eddie turned back to sit behind Jennifer, diving his arms into the water and using them as makeshift oars, helping Jennifer to push the boat to the other end of the lake.

Soon enough, Eddie came to the realisation that, with only one oar and no motor, there was no way him and Jennifer could successfully escape Jason. Instead, he grabbed onto the oar Jennifer held and turned around, swinging it towards Jason. "Hey, stay back, man! Stay back!" He yelled out, standing in front of Jennifer both to protect her from Jason and to cover her face, not wanting for her to become a wanted individual alongside him. "Stay back!"
