"OK GUYS, REMEMBER. Monday is the last day to turn in any missing work!" The classroom's teacher reminded, the air in the classroom felt heavy with the scent of chalk and anticipation as students fidgeted in their seats, waiting for the clock to strike 3 and the bell to ring.

Sitting near the back, Isis tapped her pencil against her desk as she mumbled the words to the song blasting in her headphones, "This ain't high school, me and my crew we can slide through,"

Isis had her gaze fixed on the window where sunlight filtered through the blinds of the school window as she absently tapped away on her phone, her mind a million miles away from the confines of the classroom. And just like everyone else, she was ready for the bell to ring.

Like anyone else, Isis enjoyed her weekends. Not because she was ready to hang out with her friends, be out and about at parties and be out all night.

But to be in the house, sleep in as much as she can and enjoy her time at home. Just like a homebody would. She never minded going out but anytime everyone was at the same place at the exact same time, it was a recipe for chaos.

"Isis!" Someone called her once again, prompting her to yank off her headphones. With a sigh, Isis faced her cousin, who shared her class.

"What!"

"For one, I can hear that loud ass music from over here. For two, don't what me!" Jaida's tone was playful yet reproachful as Isis adjusted the volume and returned the earphones to her ears.

"My bad, Jai. You know I hate when people try to talk to me with my headphones in. Wassup tho?"

"Soo, what did your mom say about coming over this weekend?" Jaida asked with the biggest grin on her face,

"Oh shittt." Isis placed her palm on her forehead before throwing it back & groaning. She had totally forgotten about asking to come over.

"Girl. Don't tell me you forgot?"

"I'm sorry, Jai! It slipped my mind with all this testing bullshit going on this week. I'll ask my mom as soon as I get home, promise!"

"Isis, I'm not playing with you this time! If you give me any kind of excuse to stay in the house, I'm pulling up and dragging you out myself!" Jaida threatened, Isis chuckled and went back to her phone.
