I couldn't be consoled. So I started writing. writing was my escape from reality, and I could be completely delusional and it would be considered productive.
I ended up writing a poem.
ghost
he was a
great time
a thrill ride
my existential freedom rhyme
a glamorous lie
a marvelous high
but only i knew
that pale skin wrapped up in my bed
the magic i made in my head
those blue eyes i romanticized
was all fantasized
but it wasn't
it was real
or was it
my lips peeled
he comes in waves
then he goes away
his magic air
he comes and goes
cause he's a ghost
i swear
i was there
i watched
myself fall
i watched
through it all
until it took me away
i lost a friend and now it's all over
i wished for him on a four leaf clover
but now it's gone and i don't know what to do
cause i admired you
Leah Grace
I looked down at the page, which was splattered with teardrops. i let the tears fall onto the page and stream into my mouth and ears.
I liked him. i really liked him. cameron, not parker. i might not have feelings for cameron anymore, but that doesn't mean it hurt any less.
I clung to my bedsheets, my shoulders shaking from the short, shallow breaths i was taking. Cameron may have hurt my friends, but he was such a good friend to me. when i randomly stopped eating in the middle of august and couldn't figure out why i lost my appetite, he checked with danny every day to make sure i ate.
when i was sad, he made me laugh again. when i had problems, he gave me advice. he was like the big brother i never had.
and i missed him.
so freaking bad.
after my little crying session, i checked my messages, and looked what ginger said.
Gigi: damn girl u sure you don't want me to tell him to take a chill pill
Leah: it's fine don't worry about it
G: dw i'll protect you in choir tomorrow bbg
L: SHIT

the next day
september 5th, 2023
i walked into the choir room wearing a greyish teal shortsleeve crop top and ripped jean shorts with lavender crocs and a black north face bag. i immediately ran over to Ginger to give her a hug and talked to Lacy for a while.
i sat down in the middle of the second row next to Ginger. Ginger leaned over and started whispering in my ear.
"girl do you see Cameron right now"
i looked at Cameron through my peripheral vision and failed to suppress a laugh. he was wearing a shiny green birthday hat on the top of his 5 inch poofy dark brown hair. he was slumped in his seat with his backpack still on with airpods in, and he was looking at his phone with the most miserable expression on his face. he glanced at me and glared when he saw i was looking at him. his upper lip had the trace of a mustache on it, and he looked way mustier than the last time i saw him.
"girl i think he had a glow down over the summer."
i giggled in her ear.
"his nose looks way bigger than last year." she responded.
"RIGHT?!?!?"
we laughed.
"when we were dating i always told him i liked his shaggy hair and his little mustache and now i think he took it to the next level." Ginger mused.
"NAHHH maybe he wants you back"
"oh hell to the nah. he's uglier than max duran"
that was a big statement. max duran was pretty much the ugliest kid in the school. he was the laughingstock for a while after he got beat up by mikayla's brother tyson last year. max asked mikayla out and she said no (obviously) and he was convinced he could make mikayla like him. tyson said helllll no, and they met up at a local park to fight. max pulled up in khakis, a leather jacket, and mirrored sunglasses like he was some motorcycle guy. tyson's friend took a video of max, saying:
tyson's friend: so watchu gon' do?
max: i'm gonna BEAT 'IS MOTHERFUCKING AASSSSSS, that's what i'm gonna do!
tyson: that's whatchu gonna do?
max: that's what I'm gonna do my guy
*camera pans to tyson cracking up*
calling someone uglier than max was pretty much the ultimate insult. so when that sentence came out of Gingers mouth, i accidentally let out a shriek as an image of max came to mind and jumpscared the living crap out of me.
everyone in the room looked at me, and me and Ginger grabbed each other's hands for dear life as our bodies quaked with hysterical laughter.
"sorry- i just- i was- i was NOT expecting that." i managed to say between laughs.
Ginger laughed even harder. "Leah- Leah- STOP TALKING!!!" she said, rocking back and forth with her hands covering her mouth.
"No- no don't- don't say my name"
"Leah."
i laughed so hard i accidentally hit my head on the music stand. me and Ginger doubled over in laughter.
"you guys, it's not even that funny." Lacy said, making our laughter calm down. Me and Ginger side eyed each other.
"my- my stomach." i groaned.
"we take ab workouts very seriously. we want six packs by spring break." Ginger told Lacy with a surprisingly straight face.
"don't look at me." i tried not to laugh.
