Justin woke slowly as he felt his husband Jay Halstead-Voight sit up; the younger man climbed out of bed with a soft huff, and Justin watched as the man throw on a jumper before shuffling out of the bedroom. Becoming more aware of his surroundings, Justin could hear soft whimpers coming from the baby monitor that sat on the bedside table.

Jay and Justin had become parents 3 years ago, after a heated evening led to activities being carried out. Jay had become pregnant and early one August morning, had welcomed Aiden Jackson Voight into the world. Justin sat up and smiled as he listened to his husband speak to the small toddler gently.

Justin could hear Jay walking back towards their shared bedroom, and smiled widely as the man walked into the room with the small toddler cuddled into his chest. Aiden was suckling softly on a green dummy, his left hand tightly holding onto the stuffed elephant that his grandfather Hank had given him when he was born.

"Morning beautiful" Justin whispered, watching as his husband walked over to the bed and sat beside him

"He's sick, I can't stay home, got so much paperwork" Jay mumbled, leaning into Justins body

"I can't either baby, I have court today" Justin sighed, his head coming to rest on Justins shoulder

"I'll take him with me, it's paperwork day today and he'll probably spend most of the time asleep" Jay said, kissing the bottom of Justins chin

"Are you sure babe?" Justin asked quietly

"Of course, I know Hank will be happy to see his grandson" Jay chuckled, shifting as the older man stood up and walked towards the cupboard to get dressed

Jay allowed Aiden to cuddle up into his chest, covering the toddler with a blanket while watching his husband get dressed into a black suit and tie. The older man hated doing court days but they needed to be done and this case had finally come to an end after three months.

"Have you seen my black suit shoes" Justin asked quietly, rummaging around the cupboard

"I put them downstairs by the door, you're lunch is there too" Jay smiled, shushing Aiden who had started to awake again

"Thank you, and now I'm going to be late, I love you, see you tonight" Justin rushed out, kissing Jay who chuckled at his husband's unorganised behaviour

"Mama" a small voice whimpered

"Hello little man" Jay whispered, brushing Aidens hair out of his face

"Icky" Aiden whimpered, letting out a harsh cough which had him stutter into a coughing fit

"It's ok baby, we'll get you some medicine" Jay soothed, standing up and holding his little boy close

"Mama" Aiden cried, his dummy falling out of his mouth

"I know sweetie" Jay shushed, walking down stairs and into the warm kitchen a smile on his face when he saw that Justin had left out the toddler medicine on the counter with a small juice box and crackers next to it

Jay found the baby sling he often used for times that Aiden was fussy and was quick at getting his son situated. Once the baby was settled again, the younger Detective measured out the correct amount of medicine and fed it to the boy. Gently rubbing Aidens back and adding a sway to his walk as he made himself a cup of tea.

"Shall we go see grandpa" Jay whispered, knowing he wouldn't get an answer back he kept up a hum to soothe the child

Aiden just cuddled closer to his mama, eyes closing as he started to fall asleep, and Jay took this opportunity to go back upstairs to get changed himself. As soon as Jay set the toddler down on the bed he awoke and loud cries were heard.

"One second sweetie, let mama get dressed, nearly done" Jay soothed

"Mama, pease" Aiden cried, once again coughing as he became overwhelmed by his breathing

"I'm coming sweetheart" Jay soothed, rushing over when his son gagged and picking him up

"Mama" Aiden gagged, bursting into fresh tears as he threw up down Jays front

"Oh baby boy" Jay sighed, walking slowly into the bathroom stripping Aiden out of his soiled clothes as the baby continued to cry loudly in Jays arms

The young toddler just cried louder, and Jay suddenly wished that Justin was here because he was always better at this side of parenting. The pair walked into the bathroom, and Jay started running a bath of lukewarm water. While doing that he stripped off his own tshirt and threw it in the pile, he grabbed his phone from his pocket and dialled Hanks number.

"Hank, I need help, please" Jay begged as he heard the man answer the phone

"Is that Aiden crying?" Hank asked, out the door and making his way towards his sons house

"Yes he has a fever, please just come, Justin is in court and I need help" Jay whispered

"I'm coming Jay, I'll be ten minutes ok, get him in the bath" Hank ordered, hanging up the phone and jumping in his car

Jay did as he was told, gently lowering the baby into the water, wincing as his sons cries got louder and more desperate.

"Sweetie, please, you're ok" Jay whispered, forgetting Hanks order and picking Aiden up, holding him close and whispering sweet nothings into the small boys ear

"Jay, he needs to be bathed kid, he has a fever" Hank sighed as he walked into the bathroom

"I'm sorry, he was so upset" Jay whispered, holding his now sniffling son

"Let me take him, get him cooled down, Justin is downstairs" Hank said, taking Aiden who whimpered first but settled down when Hank started singing softly

"But he's in court" Jay said

"I called him, go see him, I've got him" Hank promised, pressing a gentle kiss to Jays forehead

Jay only nodded, pulling a pair of Justins sweatpants on before walking down the stairs to see his husband sat on the stools with a worried smile on his face. Jay stumbled into Justins arms and couldn't help but burst into tears, clutching his husband tightly.

"I'm sorry" Jay sniffed

"Nothing to be sorry about babe, you're worried about your baby" Justin said softly

"I'm a failure, I can't even look after him on my own" Jay whimpered

"Jay, look at me, babe you're not a failure, you're the best mum that boy could have" Justin said softly, holding Jay softly

"But I had to call your dad, just like the last time" Jay said, leaning into Justin

"You can call me anytime, that doesn't make you a failure" Hank said softly, walking into the kitchen with Aiden asleep and cradled to his chest wearing a nappy and a vest

"Can I hold my baby?" Jay asked quietly

"Of course, you don't need to ask" Hank said, handing Aiden over and watching as Jay soothed him instantly

"I'm going to put him down for a nap, maybe sleep alongside him" Jay mumbled, kissing Justin gently and smiling softly at his father in law
