i take my shower after practice and head towards my dorm room to finish the day. it was the first week of school and i already had assignments to do and exams to study for. to maintain my spot on the team, my gpa has to be on top at all times, so i couldn't slack even if i wanted to. i put on some comfortable sweats with a plain white tee with my favorite gold chain. i start to collect my belongings before i head out my dorm to grab some food. as i'm preparing, my roommate isaiah walks in and greets me. he's just as tall as me but he'll never try out for the team, he's an art major. zay is just like me though he just takes a lot of pride in art and creating, and i think that's why we get a long so well. he's not considered an outsider. if we were still in high school we probably wouldn't even be grouped together.
"what's the word zay!" i greet him as we dap each other up, "T-REXX! man you tell me! i heard you had a time at orientation!" he laughs. i felt he was over exaggerating it a bit so it threw me off but not really because i'm always having a good time at the local school parties. "you know how i do bruh, it's just in me honestly!" i say just a typical response. "i gotta get like you man.." he says, i was confused for a moment but i just went a long. you can say i was popular here at ncat, it wasn't me though, it was my stats that made them want me from my old hbcu. i'm a pretty good player, i've been one since my high school days. i'm not one to brag so i just stay hush about it. i'm just a regular guy but they treat me like i'm king tut here.
"yo but it was this fine girl named kailah i met she's here for criminal justice—.." as he was talking i got a beep on my pager from my teammates, "YO T-REXX U R LEGENDARY!" i stared at the page confused for a moment but i just assumed they were talking about practice and responded with "thnx". i do tend to show out during practice. after locking back into my attention span i hear zay finish his story, "and then she was all like well artists don't really make as much as judges and i was just like man society man.." he ends his scenario. "yea yea bro good shit.." i say to him as i exit our room on my way to get food. i was so thrown off.
