These Memories (Part 1/4)

Julia sighed, knowing what he meant. After the founder's appearance "change," the staff had jokingly taken to calling him by the name Red, they knew never to say it while he was within earshot, or else their career would be over before they could say, "Rainbow Friends."

"Yeah, yeah. I'll keep my mouth shut." She said, turning to leave the room. With a wave, she opened the door and exited, closing the door behind her.

She glanced down at the paper. She decided that she might as well go ahead and get Green his vaccination. She headed towards the storage unit, still tightly holding the clipboard in one hand.

As she walked down the hallway, she saw her boss, Mr. Davis, coming down from the opposite direction. She tensed up and tried to avoid eye contact, but he cleared his throat as she passed, and she stopped, her back facing him.

"Ms. Adkins." He addressed her. Julia took a deep breath before turning around to confront him.

Everyone knew not to say a word about it, but ever since Mr. Davis had been caught up in one of the experiments, he had been completely different, changed.

And she wasn't even talking about his bright red skin or bulging round eyes that he now had. It was something else. Something...deeper, that unsettled her.

"Re- Mr. Davis, what can I do for you?" Julia said, trying to act natural. Mr. Davis narrowed his eyes as she said the name, and she shifted uncomfortably, feeling a slight rush of panic as she hoped that he wouldn't decide to fire her after the conservation.

"What are you working on at the moment?" He said, his big eyes seemed to stare straight into her soul, and it made her deeply uncomfortable. It was a far cry from the man he once was, whose only goal was to ensure the happiness of children, both near and far, with his wonderfully creative ideas.

"Oh, I was just...um, going to give Green his vaccination." She said, smiling awkwardly.

"Which one?"

"The, uh, the Recombinant Influenza Vaccine."

"...Remind me again why we don't just use the Quadrivalent Live Attenuated Vaccine?" Mr. Davis asked, raising an eyebrow.

Julia sighed, she knew that he was going to question her every move, so she simply went along with it.

"It's easier to use this one. The Rainbow Friends respond to it better, and it's not even worth doing the Quadrivalent Vaccination with Blue." She said, trying to sound confident.

Mr. Davis was silent for a moment, then turned his head, quietly scoffing. Julia sighed, wondering if she would be able to go or not.

Mr. Davis then turned back towards her, and she wished that he didn't. "Why don't you let me take care of that vaccine then? You're busy, and I need to go see Green for something anyway." He said.

Julia was silent for a moment, and she didn't really know how to respond. On the one hand, Mr. Davis probably had ulterior motives, as usual, and she would rather administer it herself. On the other hand, however, he was her boss, and if she said no...

"Uh...yeah, sure. I just got it approved so..." She said, trailing off.

Mr. Davis nodded. "Very good. Now, you go take a break, let me take care of this." He said. Julia had a feeling as he said that, that something else was going on, but knew better than to question him.

With another awkward smile, she tentatively handed him to clipboard, trying to avoid his blank and calculating stare all the while. Then, she turned and walked away. It was at a faster pace than usual, but she didn't really care.

As Julia entered her office, she still had that weird feeling. Like something was wrong. But she knew that she always had that feeling whenever she was around Mr. Davis, or Red, as everyone still called him.

Ever since he had been accidentally transformed, it was like he was a completely different person, and it terrified her.

Oswald D. Davis, creator of the Rainbow Friends and founder of the company ODD. Dedicating his life to the joy of children, wanting nothing more than to spread joy, now seemed to be a cold, heartless, businessman who was only focused on expanding the company further.

And it wasn't only that, she had felt like her personal life was also being affected by this too. Her good friend, Trenton, had left only days before the incident, fearing that things may be taken too far.

First him, and now Oswald. The staff used to have so much fun, planning out ways to bring their visions to life, to bring the Rainbow Friends to life. But now, it seemed like the Rainbow Friends were treated worse every day, and the company became less and less kid friendly as time went on.

She sighed, sinking down into her chair.

She supposed that this was her life now. She was too far in this to stop now, to give up. Someone had to stand up for the Rainbow Friends, and she was one of the only ones who would still do that.

She put her head in her hands, thinking about all of the things that they could have had if they had been a little less greedy, and instead kept their best interests at heart.

Yes, you've probably noticed, but I've finally decided to dive a little deeper into the lore of this AU.

(Apologies if the italicized text is a little harder to read. Let me know if you want it normal next time.)

Don't worry, I promise Orange will be back, and also traumatized. Also there will be some more of Green and Blue coming up.

Stick around and I hope you have a good day/night!
