Chapter 34
{Andrew's POV} I pull the sled up front and wait patiently for Sadie. Then, another sled pulls up next to me. The driver is considerably tall with shaggy blonde hair. He flips his hair out of his face revealing bright blue eyes. We both briefly make eye contact. I nod in greeting. "Waiting for your date too?" He asks. "My fiancé." I answer. I smile. God I love saying that! "Say the snow falls in the winter at midnight." Sadie's dad's voice bounces around in my head. "The names Matthew, or Matt S." he holds out his hand. "Andrew Gray." I firmly shake his hand. "Just S? What does it stand for?" "Ohh just some complicated name. It's not that important." "Ok Matt S. the snow falls in the winter at midnight." He blinks and then cringes. "Yes sir it does. I am." I know what he means. Then, a familiar face walks out of the door followed by Sadie. "Why if it isn't Emilia Cambell." "We meet again Andrew Gray!" I give her a hug. "You must be Matthew." Sadie says. "Sadie Hayes? Em talks so much about you! Please call me Matt!" "Nice to meet you Matt.” They shake; it’s kind of awkward because they are unfamiliar. I kiss Sadie on the cheek and whisper in her ear. {Sadie's POV} I shake Matt's hand and Andrew plants a kiss on my cheek. His lips brush by my ear and his whispers in my ear. "They're our kind." That gave me chills. I nod and whisper back. "I know."
Chapter 35
{Andrew's POV} We both help our girls into the sleds. "Mush!" Matt and I yell simultaneously. Approximately 10 minutes later we pull up at a tall building that used to be a hotel judging by its looks. Matt and I heel the dogs. I offer Sadie my arm. The girls fix each others appearance. We guys do the same. After that, we offer our arms to our dates and walk up the grey concrete steps. I check my watch when we reach the top. 6:55 it reads. I take a deep breath and open the door allowing everyone to go inside. Matt holds open a second door and we are standing in the lobby. A man and women who look to be related to Matt walk up to us. "The snow falls in winter at midnight." I say in a mature voice. "Ahh our guests have arrived!" Says the woman. "Names?" Say the man. Matt gestures to me. "I'm Andrew Gray and this is my fiancée Sadie Hayes." "Mike's daughter?" The woman asks smiling. Sadie nods. "I know you both already." She says to Em and Matt. "Shall we go to the meeting room?" We follow her into a large room with a wooden business table. In there is another woman sitting at the head of the table. "Snow Seekers, we have been expecting you." The woman says and then the door is shut behind us.
Chapter 36
{Sadie's POV} We take our seats and I desperately try to sit still. I hate the feeling of being locked up in a room with no escape. Andrew can tell I'm jittery by the way he is holding on to my hand, trying to calm my nerves. The woman is wearing an emerald pan suit and is in her thirties or forties. Not the most attractive woman but, I can tell she has the brains to make up for it. "I'm glad you all made it here this evening. I'm sure you all are filled with questions but, may I ask you to save them for the end? Thank you. Let's get started." I take a sip from the glass of water in front of me. "First, let me introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth Hayes." I nearly do a spit take. She notices my wide eyes. "Yes, Sadie I am your aunt, your dad's sister. Gosh you look so much like him!" My eyes begin to tear up at the mention of my father. Andrew touches my shoulder. I shiver, even though his hands are warm. My shoulders are bare and after what happened with Lucas, I've been flinching at the slightest touch. "I go by Lizzie." She continues on. "You all went through the same thing not aware that you were being prepared for something great." I look down at the floor. Em's parents are gone too. Probably Matt's as well. I catch Em's eye and mouth I'm sorry. She just nods. "This group in particular is my strongest group of four. I'm not just saying that either. You guys need to work as a team as you will see." She gestures to a screen I didn't notice before and hits a remote. "Long ago people lived together, not in city-sectors with limited boundaries." It booms. I sink down in my chair as they show the starving children of Friday. This is going to be the longest movie of my life. There will be tears and not only mine.
Chapter 37
{Em's POV} I never cry during movies or anything really..... It takes a lot to get me to cry. I even saw a tear running down Matt's cheek. This is what makes me cry. It hurts me to see him sad. He is such a strong guy because of what he's been through but, only I can see the pain behind his gorgeous blue eyes. I regret putting on the mascara, which I rarely wear. "It's like this film was designed to hit us in our weak spots." I think to myself and look across the table at Sadie. She too has tears running down her face. Andrew was crying more than I have ever seen. His body shakes with his head pressed onto Sadie's shoulder. Her long fingers were stroking his brown hair. "Andrew's parents." I whisper. "You okay Matt?" I whisper with deep concern. He nods and wipes his face with the heel of his hand and turns my way. He notices my tears and takes a big thumb and wipes them away before resting his thumb on my chin. "It's ok, it's all a game. They want you to crack. We're gonna be ok, I won't let them hurt you." He whispers and then kisses my forehead.
Chapter 38
{Andrew's POV} Ten minutes into the film and everyone's in tears. Including me... I kind of forgot to stay strong as I sob quietly on Sadie's shoulder. "They took my parents!" I cry out. I try to bury my head into Sadie's shoulder. She gently strokes my hair as I wet her shoulder. I feel her own tears falling slowly on my head as I continue to cry. {Sadie's POV} It's my turn to be strong. I let silent tears of hatred fall into Andrew's hair. I am actually comforted by Andrew's touch in contrast to earlier. The film finally flicks off and the lights go on. Em's head is on Matt's shoulder with her face towards us, her makeup running and Matt's nose resting on her head. Matt's blue are glassy with tears. Lizzie walks over and puts her hand on Andrew's shoulder. "Don't touch him!" I hiss. "This is all your fault!" "I-I was going to say you're done for today and we have your rooms ready." She stammers. I look over at Matt and he nods. "I'll show them where he says." I rub Andrew's back. "Come on, let’s get out of here." I help him up and Matt leads the way to the elevator. We all get in. Em hangs on to him for support and Andrew squeezes me tight. Matt touches my shoulder. "Sadie, you are very brave." I gaze at him with shocked eyes. "I mean it." I look at him questioningly. We are cut off by the elevator opening. He lets Andrew and I out first and then guides us to the end of the hallway. He reaches into his pocket and hands me a key. "See you tomorrow morning." He says and pecks me on the cheek gently. The way a friend would. "Goodnight." "Night." Then, they walk to their own room. I unlock the door and Andrew flops on the couch. I take his face in my hands. His eyes are red and puffy. "I love you." He stares at me. Then, he presses his lips to mine. "We speak the language of love Sadie!" He gasps. "Why don't you change clothes?" I motion towards our bags. He nods and I grab my bag. I toss him his and walk into the bathroom. I laugh at my reflection and wonder what Em is up to.
Chapter 39
{Sadie's POV} I didn't do anything before I heard my name. "Sadie!" Andrew exclaims. I run out of the bathroom tripping in my heels. He points at the closet that has clothes for both of us. I open a drawer to find more clothes. I gasp and Andrew looks over my shoulder. "I'm gonna shower ok?" He nods and searches for clothes to wear. I grab a tank top and shorts. I once again walk into the bathroom and start the shower. I remove my makeup for the second time tonight. I struggle to unzip my dress and take off both my heels and the dress along with everything else. I step into the warm comforting shower and clean my body and hair. I can't even remember the last time I showered. I finish, shut off the water, and wrap myself in a towel. I find a robe and put it on. I wrap my hair in the towel and search for a brush. I find one and also brush my teeth. Then, I brush my hair, put on my pajamas, and braid my hair. I gather up my clothes and step out of the door to find everyone in our room. I scan the faces, Em, Matt, Andrew, Lizzie, and Lucas. I feel sick to my stomach.
