Chapter 13||
{Sadie's POV} I wake up in Andrew's arms and a wool blanket around us. I don't want to wake Andrew so I just lie there. My stomach growls. I realize I haven't eaten since the morning we left. It growls again. I try to slip free from Andrew's grasp. He squeezes me tighter. "Andrew", I whisper. "Andrew!", I say louder. "What? Huh?", he looks flustered. I smile at the adorable face he makes. "You're so cute when I wake you up." I giggle a little. "Look who's talking! You slept the whole way here!", he teases. "I'm hungry. I'm going hunting" before he says no I kiss him on the cheek and start getting ready. "Andrew, you face feels kinda hot. You ok?" "Yes Sadie, I'm fine. You are not going hunting by yourself tho-" he get cut off by a sneezing fit and he starts coughing. See what I mean by Andrew being overprotective? He is definitely sick. "Andrew please. Stay here, you are getting sick and need rest." "Fine!", he sighs and scrunches up his face like a little kid. I lace up my boots and then set up and extra warm resting area with blankets and extremely warm sleeping bags. I also boil some snow and put it in the cup from Andrew's mess kit. I wrap him up in blankets and tuck him into the sleeping bag. I want him to stay hydrated and to break this fever. "I'll be back soon Andrew.", I say in a soothing voice. "Sadie", Andrew says in a muffled voice. "Be very careful! Please! It's not the same is home!" I see Andrew is getting flustered. "Andrew,I'll be just fine. Don't worry and get some rest! Love you!" I grab my quiver and bow and head into the woods. I begin to gather the many supplies. I will be awhile,but I will have to take a break to check on Andrew so that he doesn't get worried and come looking for me. Andrew. I hope he is ok.|| Chapter 14||
{Andrew's POV} I can't believe I let Sadie go alone! But what was I supposed to do? I feel and obviously look awful! I'm scared to death that I'm going to lose Sadie. I know that it will be my responsibility if anything happens to her. I can't afford to think like that....Sadie can defend herself. I taught her! I've seen it! She is fierce! I'm exhausted from the worry and my eyelids get heavy. I start to doze off.......
{Sadie's POV} It has already been about half an hour. By this time I have two squirrels and an arctic hare. I put them in my game bag and decide to make a second trip for herbs not only to make a meal but also to heal Andrew. First we both need to eat something. My stomach growls again and I sprint back to the cave. When I get there I wake Andrew and tell him I'm back. He is completely delirious and drenched in sweat. He is also shaking violently. I wrap him very tightly in a blanket hoping to break the fever. I frantically look through my backpack for a first aid/medical book my mother made before we started out on our trek. I let out a sigh of relief when I find it. I open it and I flip to the quick guide that lists symptoms. I admire my mother for being so clever in the process of making this book. I quickly skim through the sections and finally find all of Andrew's symptoms. A tear begins to roll down my cheek.||Chapter 15||{Sadie's POV} My vision is blurred with tears. I hear a whoosh of a new sled stopping outside. I grab my bow and load it. I slowly walk outside to see who it is. I'm so shocked I drop my bow and start sobbing. My mother stands there with a gash in her forehead. "Sadie it's ok. Just please help me!" I bring my mother into the cave and lie her down next to Andrew. I rip a strip of cloth and clean out her wound.Then, I tightly wrap her head in gauze. That's when the questions start. "What's wrong with Andrew?" My mother asks worried. "I'm not sure..." I start sobbing all over again. "The treatment was missing! I don't know what to do!" I say between sobs. "Sadie it's going to be o-" "He could die!" I sob even harder. At this time my mom is hugging me and trying to calm me down. "When did you find out he was sick?" "This morning, he had a fever." "Sadie it'll be ok. Lets go get some herbs." We trek out into the forest searching for herbs. "Hey Sadie?" "Yeah?" I say. "Where did you get that gorgeous necklace from?" I blush a little. "Andrew gave it to me." I smile a little. "I didn't know you two um...you two were dating." "Moooommmm!! I'll give you details later." We both smile at this. "Sadie I need to tell you something important." My mom's face suddenly serious. "You're father is somewhere very safe, he wants us to go there too."my mind floods with questions. I start to get dizzy and have to sit down on a nearby log. We have barely a clue as to where we are and he wants us to live here? "If it's safe why are you injured?!" "I'll tell both you and Andrew later." She immediately returns her focus to the plants she is sorting through. I have no clue what's going to happen....||Chapter 16||
{Sadie's POV} We return to the cave and have a fire going. I take off my socks and boots while my mom prepares Andrew's medicine. I put fresh wool socks on and sit staring into the fire. My mom gives Andrew his medicine and then she makes some tea. Andrew out cold, my mom decides to talk about what I was dreading. "So.... What's going on with you two?" She smirks mischievously at me. "Well....." I begin to say, I just realized how clueless I am to Andrew and I's relationship. "It's ok Sadie, you can tell me anything. I won't freak out." "It's not that it's just, the whole thing is wired... I mean it took this-whatever it is to bring us together." I probably sound like a lost puppy... This whole situation is confusing! "Sadie. It's fine just relax. You started sobbing when you thought he would die and I knew then that your feelings toward Andrew has changed. At first you guys acted like siblings and then best friends. But now-" "I love him!" I blurt out. I immediately start blushing. I don't even know why. Andrew begins to stir and sit up. As he sits up he groans loudly. I move over to his makeshift bed and force him to lie down. "Ok fine!" He says in a raspy voice. "Oh,hi Mrs.H!" He says surprised."Hello Andrew." "Hey what happened to your head?" He scrunches up his face and squints. I giggle at the face he make. Then, he starts coughing hard. "Shhhh." I whisper soothingly. "Wait! Before I'm ordered to voice rest I just wanted to say I love you too." I gently kiss him on the forehead to find that it's sweaty. I grab a cloth and dab away the moisture from his face. "I think the fever's breaking." I look over at my mom who was smiling to herself at such a heartwarming moment. Of course I just ruined it. I decide to change the subject. "Now that Andrew's awake can you tell us what's going on." Her smile disappears. "Ok,but please stay calm."||
