Sunday 10th June, 07:32 am

Today I had my first football match of the season so I was pretty nervous. And I was so tired. I had gotten very little sleep that night.

Eden went to bed 2 hours before me but she was also sleeping while I was contemplating life at 2am. I fell asleep around 06:45 am, I'm pretty sure, it was probably later because I was exhausted.

I woke up and Eden was cuddled up to me and my arm was under her neck, dead. I didn't mind though. I felt Eden move to lay more on top of me instead of beside me so I moved my arm and stroked her hair as she slept.

My football match was at 09:30 am, in Gasonbury. Where Eden lived. That's like an hour and a half from here. It clicked in my head that we were going to be late so I gently moved Eden off of me and covered her with the duvet.

I walked downstairs because I heard my dad talking on the phone.

"You need to give me more time, I don't have the money to take them both right now." I heard my dad say. "No, their mother died yesterday, the police said the house is mine for now until the we can clear out the house. I can sell whatever Danae decides he doesn't want....yes, it's his call....because I never lived there....I know the police said the house is mine for now but nothing in that house is mine. It's Danae's choice."

I had no idea what was going on there but I let my curiosity get the better of me. "Who you on the phone to?"

My dad turned around and said, "Oh, hey buddy. Listen, I'll have to call you back."

He hung up the phone as I gave him a confused look. "Who was that?"

"Child services." He sighed. "How much of that did you hear?"

"What don't you have the money for?" I asked as I put my hands in my pockets.

"Child services don't think I can take care of you and Lily because I don't have the money at the moment." He said as he rubbed his temples.

"We can go to the house today and start clearing it out. Go to a car-boot sale." I suggested.

"Not today Dan, you have your football match." He said as he sat at the dining table with two coffees and gestured one towards me.

I took the cup and sipped it as I said, "It's not going to last all day. Plus, we'll already be in Gasonbury."

"You're difficult to argue with." He laughed.

"Do you want me to get a job?" I asked, "Help with finances?"

"No, Dan, I would never ask you to get a job to pay the bills." He said. This is what I love about my dad, my mum was going to make me get a job because she got fired for showing up drunk one too many times. "I want you to get a job if you want to get a job. To earn your own money to spend on yourself."

"I don't mind. Really, you've done so much already. You drove almost 2 hours to make sure Lily and I had a safe place to sleep after you just dropped us back, you even let Eden come with." I said. "Please let me help you."

"Dan, I can't ask you to do that." He said. "I'm the adult, I need to provide for my family. I know you're growing up and you're 17 soon, you're welcome to get a job and I will gladly help you get one but I'm not going to let you help me pay the bills, that's not happening."

"Okay." I caved, I really did want to help my dad but I get why he doesn't want me to. "Can I at leat help you with a car-boot sale?"

My dad laughed again, "Yes, I'm sure Lily and Eden will be up for it too."
