"And you say you hate fancy things.", Priya regarded, her fingers judging the fabric of the beautiful silk gown- with a thread count possibly in thousands- standing proudly amongst the hideous choice of clothing in Krithika's wardrobe.

When it came to pampering, Xavier held back nothing. There was no limit to him doting on her. Four months into the relationship, it had dawned on her what the 'rich lifestyle' actually meant. She had been raised in a wealthy family, her father's business brought good profit and they never had to worry about basic requirements while enjoying a little bit of luxury. They had savings and invested more than enough funds to secure their future.

But she never in her dream thought that one could spend money without worrying about it. Like zero financial anxiety.

"Xav, you do know that you are filthy rich.", she had countered him when he had presented her with a pair of sparkling diamond and ruby studded earrings, the cost of them probably more than she would have liked to acknowledge, and he had funnily frowned, "Is it? I don't have a private jet yet."

Yes, he didn't have a private jet- yet. But he owned a freaking lavish boat house in Alleppey and another one- a private one for that matter- in Kumarakom. After revealing such information he had casually told her, "Darling, we both should go for a vacation to Kumarakom, you would love it.", clearly ignoring her jaw-dropping in bewilderment.

"That looks like a special gift.", Rashi's voice made her blink back to the present and look at her ever-lovely friend. She saw her raising an inquiring brow, "Isn't it?"

Oh, my lovely Sherlock.

Rashi and Priya had decided to have a sleepover in her P. G. They had whined in unison that they never had the 'girls time' with her as she kept skipping every vacation with them. It had been more than a year now and she had never accompanied them outside the Xhasis campus, other than occasionally tagging along in the public transport.

She had agreed to their request as her roommate had left for a week with her clingy boyfriend, and that had left her with no one to rant about her life in the closed confinement of her room. That morning she had received a 'We are sorry to inform you.' email and wanted to be upset about it with someone.

You failed that interview on purpose.

No, I didn't. I had prepared well and I was okay to be far from Xavier, she chided herself

She had told her friends about her job hunt after confirming for the second round of the interview as hiding it for long was becoming unnerving. Initially, they were unhappy that she had to hide her career decisions from them as if they were her competition, but in the end, they supported her. Moreover, Akash and Rathna had asked their friend circle to get some tips on preparing her for the interview.

She had thought that it would be great to have some company as she cried about her indecisiveness on whether she had just failed or she deliberately had wanted to fail, perhaps leaving out the part of why she wanted to fail.

But she had missed an important note in her mind that her room was now peppered with gifts from Xavier. The kind of opulent gifts that would rattle the minds of her friends. They knew about her stingy personality and all that expensive stuff lying around the place would raise obvious suspicions.

"What the fuck, is that a Gucci?", Priya shrieked, admiring the comfortable black loafers partially hidden under the side of her bed.

Krithika sighed and closed her eyes trying to recollect why she had accepted any gift from Xavier. Oh yes, because every time he had given her that heart-melting smile, whispering to her, "Please Krithika, this is nothing."

It wasn't just about the gifts. Even when he was flying with Satya to multiple cities each week to meet some tycoons, even with the impending deadlines, even with his crazy workload and mental stress, Xavier never missed calling or texting her. He never missed to inform his whereabouts, never missed to ask her about her day, never left a chance to go out for a date with her whenever possible.

Xavier made sure that she never felt unwanted. He didn't cling to her, she had her own space, her circle of friends, and a very independent life. But he had slowly permeated into her life like the ethereal fragrance inside a temple, so pleasant that it felt refreshing to rejoice in every second.

You are getting addicted to him and that is a dangerous path, Krithika.
