"What?" I asked, frowning at my dad. "What's with the stare?"

Napatawa siya. "Grabe. Dad replied, laughing.

I arched my brow. "Are you sure that's what you want to say?" I inquired further. My dad was so nosy. In his defense, he said he was just observant and curious.

"Manang-mana ka talaga sa nanay mo. Kuhang-kuha pati pagtaas ng kilay! De, anak, gusto ko lang malaman. . ."

I waited for him to continue.

"Dad, what the fuck?"

"Hoy, Gemma Alliana, bibig mo!"

"Sorry. But what made you ask that? Do we look like a couple?" I asked bewildered.

How did Dad arrived at that thought? Did we look like a couple in his eyes? We're close, I'd have to admit, but we aren't even sweet. The idea doesn't repulse me, it's just that. . . Ryder was almost like a brother to me. He's the closest guy friend I have. We vibe together and agree on many things—probably because we're almost the same age. Besides, he's practically family because he's Ninong Red's son and Ninong Red is one of Dad's best friends.

"Lagi kasi kayong magkasama. Hindi mapaghiwalay," Dad said. "Hindi naman ako magagalit, anak. Okay lang kung gusto mo nang mag-boyfriend. Nasa tamang edad ka naman na."

The crease on my forehead just got deeper from the words coming out of my father's mouth.

Where is this coming from?

"Dad. . ." I sighed, pausing to stress the words I will say. "Ryder and I were just close friends. And I don't think he sees me that way."

"Bakit? Maganda ka naman, matalino, mabait. Perfect ka na, anak! Kagusto-gusto ka!"

Napailing na lang ako. Pareho sila nina Tito.

He was very protective of me. Kuya Adie, or Juan Adriel, was the first born and our youngest sibling was Juan Amari or Amie for short. My nickname's Alie, so it's not hard to guess that we're siblings.

"Dad, she's still young."

My brow shot up when I saw my brother's ear turned a bit red at our dad's question. He was quick to change his facial expression from surprised to nonchalant.

Huh.

Are you hiding something, Kuya?

"No one piqued my interest yet," he shrugged casually.

"Jusko mga kabataan ngayon, puro career pinaiiral. 'Di naman kayo mayayakap niyan sa gabi."

Natawa na lang ako at napailing. Dad was really dramatic. Maybe he's just bored. Why wouldn't he, though? They're like semi-retired already, him and my Titos. They're still young, but they've already established themselves. They co-owned an engineering firm and have multiple business ventures together.

"Where's Mom?" Kuya asked.

I already tuned them out because I walked upstairs already to depart to my room.

What a wild afternoon.

"Alright, bye. We're going home after this. Love you," sagot niya at saka ibinaba ang tawag.

"Mom's craving for a vegie roll. Do you mind if we go back inside?"

"Yeah, sure," I shrugged.

Napaka-healthy living talaga ng pamilyang 'to.

"What do you want?" tanong niya habang namimili roon.

"Hi, Noah! 'Sup!"

"Hey," I greeted, smiling.

He looked. . . I don't know, revolted?

"Your fuck buddy?" mahinang sabi niya.

"What? No! Just a. . . fling," I replied, smirking.

Lorenzo knew my escapades. Well, all of our friends knew that I'm an adventurous—and responsible, might I add—person, but him, Adie, and Ate Eira knew the nitty gritty. I don't kiss and tell, of course. It's just something they don't have a choice in—ang pakinggan ang mga kuwento ko. We're the same age and considered the "elders" among our circle. Well, except for Ate Eira who was just a year older than us and the pinaka-ate. Although she refused to be called 'ate' because she said it's making her old when she's just twenty-seven.

"Don't give me the eye. You know I'm always safe," pag-irap ko.

"Iba ang tingin sa 'yo," sabi niya. I smirked.

"Jealous, baby?" I said seductively.

I swear this guy saved my life a lot of times already.

My phone beeped for a chat notification. It was from the group chat me and my siblings share.

Another protective guy.

"Are we done? Let's go," sabi ko nang makalapit kay Enzo na bitbit ang take-out naming merienda.
