Kurt's in his pajamas on my front door. He had his suitcases with him.

"Kurt?" I asked. "What are you doing here? It's 3 AM. Are you okay?"

"Tracy threw me out," he said. "Can I stay with you?"

"Sure," I replied. "Come in." As he made himself comfortable on the couch, he turned on the TV where Tom and Jerry reruns played.

"What happened with Tracy?" I asked. "If you're comfortable with sharing."

"She threw me out because I started seeing someone else," Kurt revealed. "But didn't you guys break up a while back?" I asked.

"Yeah," Kurt said. "She thinks I'm using her for food and a roof when I can just easily ask my girlfriend if I can move in."

"Then, go do that," I said. "Look, Merci, she's not a regular girl," Kurt explained. "She's a Riot Grrrl, and you know that having a boyfriend brings them down."

"Shit, you're dating a Riot Grrrl?" I said. I began to laugh at him. "You screwed yourself over with that one, bud. Sorry."

"It's not funny, Merci!" Kurt said. "I'm serious, this is a life or death situation! I can't go back to Aberdeen or Montesano. You know how much I hate those towns."

"Womp womp," I said. Kurt gave me a side-eye. "I'm starting to hate you," he said.

As Kurt's frustration simmered, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for him, despite my initial reaction. "Look, Kurt, I'm sorry," I said, sobering up. "I didn't mean to make light of the situation. I know it must be tough for you."

Kurt sighed, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "It's just... I don't know what to do, Merci," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place."

I nodded in understanding, feeling a sense of empathy for my old friend. "Well, you're welcome to stay here for as long as you need to figure things out," I offered, hoping to provide some measure of comfort in his time of need.

Kurt managed a weak smile, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. "Thanks, Merci," he said, gratitude evident in his voice. "I appreciate it."

As we settled into an uneasy silence, the weight of Kurt's predicament hung heavy in the air. As I watched him drift off to sleep on the couch, the glow of the TV casting flickering shadows across his face, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for both of us - and if redemption was truly within our grasp.

The next morning, both of us woke up at noon. Once we saw the time, we were so surprised that our eyes might as well have popped right out of our sockets. We were late for band practice.

We got dressed, and I decided that I didn't need to brush my hair. I was in a punk band, first off, and we were running extremely late. Once we arrived, Krist and Chad glared at us, mainly at me. Chad assumed that Kurt and I were together, as in, fucking.

"Apart from Tobi, Merci's your side girl now?" Chad asked. "I'm not for cheating, but do you, man."

And I knew that when Krist glared at me, he assumed it, too.

"Get your heads out of the gutter," Kurt said. "Merci didn't want to waste more time."

"Thank you," I muttered.

The tension in the air was thick as we scrambled to set up our instruments, the weight of Chad and Krist's accusatory glares hanging over us like a dark cloud. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as I fumbled with my guitar, cursing myself for oversleeping and putting us in this situation.
