Chapter 4: A Game With a Devil

Start from the beginning

"Sparda saved humanity, but he was never there after the Great War ended," Rias said solemnly, before looking back at Y/n, "That was until the Old Satan Faction turned their gaze to Humanity, wanting to rule them as if it was their birth rite."

Sparda led a rebellion against the Old Satan Faction that he had once served, seeing the good that became of Humanity for years. His rebellion inspired many Devils to take up arms against the Old Satan Faction, including her ancestor, Zekram Bael, and her brother when he was the Heir to the Gremory House, Sirzechs. Many Devils saw Sparda's view of the humans, and how peacefully they lived, joining the fight against the Old Satan Faction. This would forever be known as the Devil Civil War. Sparda once again disappeared some time before the end of the war, but resulted in the Anti-Satan Faction emerging victorious, with younger and much more powerful Devils taking the Four Thrones and Titles of the Satans.

"My brother took the name Lucifer, Sona's older sister took the name Leviathan, the Heir of the Astaroth Family took the name Beelzebub, and the Heir to the Glasya-Labolas Family took the name Asmodeus," Rias finished, "The Peerage System was created, and Devils have been trying to recover our numbers for years after that."

"And let me guess, Sparda was never heard from or seen after that war," Y/n asked.

"That's right," Rias sighed somberly, "Many Devils believed he died, others thought he left the Underworld, and others thought he went to keep the seals to the Demonworld closed."

Y/n thought about the theories, and knew that two were true, since he was sitting in this room. But he was glad that, aside from Zeoticus, the Devils didn't know about Sparda having a lineage.

"And that's the end of the history lesson," Rias smiled, "Thank you for listening."

"I had one question about the Old Satan Faction, what happened to the original Devils that held those four names," Y/n asked.

"They died in the Great War, killed, and we lost our will to fight after that, the Fallen Angels pulled out of that war before us, and for some reason, both the Angels and Devils stopped going to war at the same time," Rias answered, "We still have skirmishes, but nothing that would really provoke a war."

"Oh, so what, it's just a 'cease fire' at the moment," Y/n asked, trying to get an idea of the situation.

"Pretty much," Rias nodded her head, before looking at the time, "We should probably head to class, students have no doubt been arriving since we've been talking."

"Okay," Y/n stood up with his bag in hand.

Both of them walked out of the Old School Building, finding students were walking onto school grounds. Once they all had gotten to their classes, the day would begin, with Y/n once again becoming the example for the rest of the students on how to act as one of Jeanne's students. Soon enough, other students were able to follow his example and even impress Jeanne. The day ended quickly, with Tsubaki walking into the room, surprising Rias and Akeno.

"Tsubaki, what are you doing here," Rias asked curiously.

"Sona has requested Y/n to report to the Student Council Chambers immediately," the spectacled girl replied, "He owes her a game of chess after he had met her some days ago."

Rias raised her eyebrows and started thinking about why Sona would risk a game of Chess with Y/n. Sure he was strong physically, with a wellspring of demonic energy within him, but he was still mostly human. If Y/n was a part of a powerful Devil Family, then this would be the only explanation for her to risk this.

"Would you be willing to tell me how it goes," Rias asked.

Tsubaki nodded, "Of course, now if you'll excuse us."
