I opened my eyes, squinting at the bright sunrise in front of me. I slowly sat up to see Taya, my Zorua, sleeping beside me in the shade of a tree. I smiled at the sleeping pokemon for a while, until I realized what day it was.

I jumped up and yelled, "Oh my god, its Rin's 10th birthday today!" Taya woke and squeaked in surprise, getting back on her feet and whipping her head around to find the source of my excitement. I grinned and sat down next to her, petting her head. "Sorry Taya, I didn't mean to wake you up."

Taya barked out a 'Zor!' and rubbed her head into my hand. I suddenly remembered where I was supposed to be. Quickly standing back up, I grabbed my bag and reached inside, pulling out an occupied pokeball. I looked down at it lovingly. "There you are," I said quietly before putting it back into the bag. "All right! Let's go home!" I took off running towards the house.

"Zorua! Zor zor!" Taya said in agreement, sprinting down the path beside me towards the house, which was on the other side of the trees. When we reached the front door, I didn't even have to knock before the door opened and my little sister jumped into a hug. "Kate, you're home!" She yelled happily.

"So you did miss me," I said.

She blushed and let go of me. "No! I just...You got me a good present, right?" She asked, crossing her arms.

I patted her head, smirking a little. "You will seee~" I said, walking into the house where I was immediately greeted by my grandparents. They both pulled me into a warm hug.

"H-hey! Guys, I was only gone for six months. I didn't die and come back!" I said, laughing.

They smiled warmly and let go. "It's good to have you back." My grandma said. "So, Rin, would you like to play some games with your sister since she's here now?"

Rin shook her head. "Can I have presents first?" She asks. All of us except for Rin sighed in disapointment, but didn't object. First, Grandma gave her a white and yellow knee-length dress, which of course she loved(she has always been a girly girl). Then Grandpa gave her a crystal flower hair clip, which complimented her hair beautifully.

Finally, it was my turn. I smiled and grabbed my bag, pulling out the pokeball and handing it to Rin. She took it and looked at it, confused. "A-a pokeball?" She asked. I laughed and gave her a thumbs up. She slowly pressed the button to release the pokemon inside. Her eyes went wide as the little fox pokemon materialized before her, a cute little pink ribbon on its tail. "Eevee!" Rin squealed. The pokemon squeaked with happiness as it watched its new owner practically bouncing off the walls. "OhmygodohmygodOHMYGOD!"

Once we got her to calm down a little, she asked, "I-Is this really mine?!"

I nodded. "Duh. Now, remember-"

"TAYA!" I flinched, turning towards the kitchen to see Taya standing in the remains of a birthday cake, the entire center of it smashed to little bits. Grandma stood next to her, looking cross.

I ran and picked her up, glaring at her. "Taya! That was Rin's birthday cake!" I scolded. The small pokemon's ears immediately fell, her eyes watering up. I sighed. Taya is a strong pokemon, but sometimes she can be just a bit TOO playful. I walked outside, Taya still in my arms. "Let's go play with our pokemon and give Grandma a chance to fix the cake," I say, looking back to Rin.

Rin nodded and followed me to the clearing in front of our house. I pulled a small frisbee from a pocket on my bag as Taya 'transformed' into a girl my age. I threw the frisbee towards Taya but I missed big time, the frisbee flying over her head and into the branches of the forest. We both quickly ran after it, laughing.

Suddenly, there was a hiss to my right. I slowed, letting Taya run ahead a little. I looked around for a moment. The noise was coming from my right...I darted past some of the branches and into another clearing filled with large rocks. I skidded to a stop at the sight in front of me. There were nearly a hundred strange looking pokemon, floating in a weird pattern. I tilted my head at the pokemon, looking them over.

Taya burst through the bushes behind me, giggling and throwing the frisbee again. I gasped as the frisbee hit one of the creatures, making them all turn around. They stared at us, hissing loudly. Taya looked back to me, no longer giggling. She looked terrified.

I took a step back, determined. We could take them. "Taya, Dark Pulse!" Taya gave me a sharp nod. She turned back into her pokemon self. Without a second thought, Taya followed my command, releasing a string of dark energy balls onto the group of pokemon. Each one seemed to hit their targets, but they immediately recovered.

They began to glow a bright blue light, chanting out their hiss. "Unknown...unknown..." The air crackled in front of me, and my nerves were beginning to flare up. Everything seemed to be burning... "Unoooowwwn..." In unison, the light began to grow until it was even bigger than me. I suddenly felt myself rise into the air. Taya let out a cry as she attempted to grab a hold of me, but she only succeeded in being pulled into the veil of light along with me. I looked towards the outside world for any hope of escaping this situation, but I only saw trees and heard the voice of my sister screaming, "Kate!" Before everything went black.
