Yale or Stanford

I wake up the next morning to my alarm going off. Jace starts to get up and I pull him back into bed and started kissing him. "Just a few more minutes," I beg. "Babe, we're going to be late for school," he says. "Maybe just a few minutes late, but it's so worth it for you." Jace laughs and says, "As much as I would love to stay in bed all day with you, we have to get to school." "Ugh I know. I'm going to get in the shower." "Oh well, you see, I can join you for that." We both hop in the shower and get a quickie in. "Now this is a great way to start the morning," I say with a smile on my face. We both finish getting ready for school and thankfully we are not late. We take our seats just as the teacher walks in and says, "Good morning, class. Today we're going to start off with a pop quiz." The whole class groans as the teacher walks around handing out the quiz. I look at it and shit; I really need to stop skipping the reading assignments. I just wing it this time and finish pretty quickly. When she hands the graded tests back, I see that I actually made a 97 on it. I am shocked! I can't believe I pulled that off. I turn around to show it to Jace and he says, "Great job! I got a 96." I smile and say, "Good job, babe!" The intercom sounds and we hear a voice say, "Mila, you're needed in the headmistress' office." Jace looks at me and asks, "What did you do?" "Hush, I didn't do anything. I'll text you when I get out and let you know what's going on." I enter the headmistress' office and she tells me to take a seat. "Am I in trouble," I ask. "No Mila, not at all. There are just a few things we have to discuss," she says. I relax and say, "Okay, sure." "So I know that you got your early acceptance into Yale, but Harvard called this morning and they are willing to offer you a full ride there. They want you pretty bad." "No," I said, "they want my title and the press that I've been getting. I'm sure that it doesn't have anything to do with me." "That may be true, but your parents wouldn't have to pay for anything. It's a full ride scholarship. You'd have your own private room with a fireplace." "With all due respect, I'm completely flattered that they're trying this hard to get me but my mind is made up on Yale." "I know, but if you put it out there that you're thinking about Harvard as well, Yale may start offering things to get you into their school." "So you want me to play the field with college?" "Well, yes I guess that would be right." "I just can't do that. I don't want Yale to get the wrong impression. I don't want them to think that they're not my number one choice." "I completely understand. It's just something for you to think about." "I appreciate that, but I've already sent in my acceptance letter to Yale and my tuition is taken care of. I've found a place to live as well so everything is already in order." "That's wonderful. Just keep up your grades and stay out of trouble and you should be good to go." "Thank you, like really thank you for everything you've done for me." "You're welcome, sweetie. You deserve it." I return to my next class and I text Jace and tell him, "I'll tell you everything after school when you take me to dinner." "Oh? I'm taking you to dinner tonight, huh," he replies. "Yes, you are. I'm craving Chinese." "Then you shall get Chinese tonight." "Pick me up at 7?" "Deal." I get on with the rest of my day while wondering why Harvard wants me so badly. I text my father and ask him if knows anything about it. "I'll look into it," he says. I head home and start getting ready for my date with Jace. I think a cute little cocktail dress will work. Jace arrives to pick me up and asks, "Okay, so what's the news?" I laugh and say, "You'll have to wait until we get there to find out." "You're no fun," he teases back. We arrive at the restaurant and get a table. "Okay," he says, "tell me what's going on." "Alright, so apparently Havard wants me so bad that they are offering to give me a full ride scholarship." "Really? A full ride?" "Yes, but of course I turned it down. I told the headmistress that I've made my mind up on Yale." "That's crazy that they're going through all this trouble to get you into their school." "I know! I texted my father to see if he could look into it for me and he said he would." We finish our dinner and have a great time. The next day as we are hanging out at my house, the doorbell rings and I go to answer it. I open the door to see a giant gift basket. I bring it in and set it on the table in front of Jace. "Wow! Who's that from," he asks. I open the card and read that it's from Stanford. "Why do all of these colleges want me so bad? Something is going on, Jace. It can't just be because of my scores," I say. "Well maybe it could be because of your scores. You're extremely smart and these colleges would be crazy to not want you." "Yeah I guess, but why go through these extreme measures? Do they do this for all of their strong applicants? I mean I really feel like there's something else going on." I sit there quietly and Jace asks, "What's on your mind?" "I haven't changed my mind about Yale, but I did some research and Stanford has the best Psychology program in the country." "Babe, if you want to go to Stanford, I will support you." "No, I don't want to go to Stanford. It's not just about you going or my friends going. This is for me. I've always wanted  to go to Yale, ever since I was a little girl, so I'm not going to change my mind because the other colleges are going crazy for me. I have this feeling that it might have something to do with my father. It would look good to have the future District Attorney's daughter at their school." "Yeah, I can see your point, but let's not think like that. I really think that they just want you for you." I look at Jace and tell him, "Okay, I don't want to think about it anymore. Let's watch a movie." "Okay. How about The Notebook?" "You really want to watch The Notebook?" "Yes, because I know it will cheer you up." "You're amazing. Then yes, let's watch The Notebook. Steak and lobster and Caesar salad and tortilla soup also sound amazing." Jace laughs and asks, "Wow, are you hungry?" "It's my anxiety; it makes me eat a lot." He kisses me softly and says, "Then let's get you all the food you want and you can eat until your anxiety is gone." I smile and say, "Sounds like a great idea to me." We order our food and it arrives quickly. I eat almost all of it. The lobster and steak were so good; they were perfectly seasoned. When the movie ends and we're cleaning up, Jade walks in with Scott and says, "Sorry for interrupting your date." We don't respond as Jace picks up our food and I fold up the blankets. Scott walks up to me and says, "You must feel so special for being accepted to all of those schools, but don't worry Mila, I'll be at Yale with you next year. We'll be back together again." I can't believe he just said that. "Scott, are delusional," I ask. Jace puts the boxes down and comes to stand next to me. "Very delusional," Jace says, "Mila is not going to be with you, so I would appreciate it if you'd back away from my girlfriend and leave her alone." Jace really can't stand Scott so of course when Scott flirts with me Jace gets super pissed and I don't blame him. Scott fires back, "Don't worry, Jace. I'm staying the night tonight so I'll keep Mila company." "No you will not," I tell him. I look at Jace and say, "Looks like I'm staying at your house tonight." Jade walks in and says, "Um is dad going to be okay with you staying the night with Jace? I know his parents are still out of town." "Let me guess, you're going to tell him," I ask. "Yep, I sure as hell am," she says. "You are such a bitch, Jade," I tell her. I give Jace a kiss goodnight and head to my room and lock the door. I wake up the next morning for school and don't come down until I know Jace has arrived to pick me up. "I'm sorry about last night. Jade can be such a bitch," I tell him as we head to school. "I know, but it's okay," he says. "I can't believe there's only three months left of school until graduation. Then the 90 day cruise and then Yale! I just hope these three months fly by." "Me too, he says, "I'm ready to start our adventure."
