Her sweet soft voice breaks immediately. So fragile. It might be her first words spoken since she got injured.

The sound of itself makes me immediately sob uncontrollably, as right there and then, all my worries and feelings about this terrible situation finally find their way out.

I jolt forward, letting myself fall on my knees at her bed as I grab her tiny cold hand. Surrendering to the moment, to my emotions.

''Sarah..I–I am so happy..you're alive..''

I'm not sure if what I am saying is even audible, as It gets smothered by my deep sobs.

I feel Soaps' hand on my shoulder as he stands next to me.
Sarah chuckles weakly. ''Ofcourse I am...Can't leave you alone, can I?''

I smile through my tears as I wipe my cheeks, holding the back of her hand to my cheek.

''How do you feel lass?'' Soap asks softly behind me.

Sarah's gaze moves up to meet his. She gives him a sweet soft smile.
''A bit tired..I can't believe this really happened..''

Her gaze turns sad as she looks back down at me, I meet her gaze instantly.

''Sarah..I am so sorry I couldn't protect you..'' I sniffle as I release her hand.

She places it on my head in response, caressing my hair.

''Don't blame yourself y/n, you have a habit of doing that.'' She says lightheartedly.

Soap chuckles softly behind me as he helps me to my feet.

''Do..do you remember exactly what happened?'' I ask her carefully.

Sarah closes her eyes, as she sighs deeply.
''Y-yes.. I do..'' She whispers, her voice filled with emotion. I immediately feel a tightness in my chest. I look up at Soap, who swallows as he clenches his hands into fists.
''Where..is he?'' Sarah asks as she slowly opens her eyes again.
''Don't worry about Night..'' I say softly as I place my hand over hers. ''We are dealing with him..We will find out why he did what he did..and he will be punished. I promise you.''

Sarah smiles softly, but her eyes are still sad.
''Y/n.. I don't want him punished. He is one of us. There must be a reason, maybe he was tricked?''

I sigh. Sarah always wants to see the good in everyone, naive in some way. But I guess I can understand her feelings. The alternative that Night hurt her on purpose, like she meant nothing to him anymore, obviously would hurt her way too much considering her possible still lingering feelings for him..

Soap stiffens behind me, biting his lip as not to say something vile, I'm sure.

We both don't want to break her heart by telling her he most likely willingly complied with Vince's plans.

Maybe it's best if he hears from him herself, if that time will ever arise.

I mean, I would love to hear his full story. So I can punish him accordingly.

I look up at Soap, who still is quiet. A vein popping at the side of his head, tells me enough about the turmoil in his head.
''Lets first focus on getting you back to health..'' I say to Sarah, wanting to cut the conversation short so she won't learn something that will upset her more. She is still so fragile in this state.

Soap releases the breath he was holding.

''Y/n is right..go back to sleep Sarah..'' He smiles warmly at her. I can see Sarah's eyes light up as she returns the smile. ''Okay..'' Then she turns back to me.
''It's so good to see you back y/n..''

''Same to you Sarah..''

''Can you bring some hair dye next time you visit?''

I chuckle. ''Of course, I will help you dye it. Promise okay?''

Sarah smiles widely, as her eyes are already falling shut. ''T-thank you..''

Soap and I watch her as she falls back asleep.

''Come on.'' Soap whispers to me as he places his hand gently on my back, guiding me back towards the hallway where Laswell is waiting on us.

The next few days have been a bit of a blur. With Soap out on a mission to find Ghost's attacker, I spend the days caring for Sarah. I dyed her hair back to fire red as she likes it. While I was out I also got some thread and beads, so we could make some bracelets.

She was so excited, her face lighting up as she told me which bead she wanted next.

''Can you make one for Soap?'' She had asked, raising her arm in the air to admire her own.
I had raised an eyebrow at her. ''Soap? Why is that?''

She had shrugged, covering her mouth as she chuckled. ''He seems like the kind who'd like it!''

I had shaken my head. '''Sure, why not. Which color do I start with?''

It was a nice way of killing time. To make her forget about Night's betrayal, bring her some ease. And I guess.. It was nice for me too to have my mind on something so insignificant for a while.

My time at 141 hasn't exactly been slow. Or easy for that matter, as I immediately got into fights with Ghost. Or other recruits. Or myself.

After our first mission together, things just went downhill from there.

It's nice to be able to catch a break while I recover, as I can trust Soap to do his best trying to find Ghost's attacker. I wonder who went with him on that mission?

I can't wait until he gets back with the full report. I just hope he is careful, since we all know Vince plays no games.

As for Ghost, after 4 days he was already back to training. I doubt his stitches have healed, but he was adamant to get back to his regular routine. I'm not surprised, as he is as stubborn as they come.

I tend to avoid him. My mind is already occupied enough caring for Sarah, that I really don't want to think about what's going on between us.

Maybe I just imagined those moments between us, and..does he really just care for me as his recruit.

Honestly, that would be the best outcome. Less confusing, maybe at some point we will actually start to get along.

yeah right.

I am so occupied by my thoughts that I walk straight into another recruit in the hallway.

I lose my balance and fall flat on my ass.

''Sorry..Sorry, totally my fault..'' I mumble. A hand extends towards me.

As I look up I see a familiar face looking back at me.

Atlas.
