Soap stares at me, but then he starts laughing.

''Oh sweet y/n..'' He says lovingly as he pulls me into a hug. ''I like this side of you, I don't see it often.''

''Alright, alright..let go of me.'' I mutter annoyed into his chest as he wraps his arms around me. I changed my mind. Just let me die of embarrassment already.

Soap chuckles as he releases me. ''You sound a lot like my sister when she has a boy crush. Couldn't help but treat you the same.''

''You have a sister?'' I ask, but immediately follow. ''This is NOT a crush!''

''Of Course it isn't.'' Soap says, still smiling widely as he places his hand over his face.
''If only you knew..'' He says quietly.

I cock my head, but before I can ask what he means he bends down, meeting my eye level.
''Trust me on this one, okay Lass? He cares more about you than anyone else. He is just too stubborn to admit it to himself.''

He cocks his head in my direction.

My cheeks flare up again and I press my cold hands against them.

I feel a flutter in my stomach, and I can't place if I am anxious or flustered by this new information.

Maybe both.

Soap picks up on my uneasiness, his gaze falls on my locket.
''Do you..even want him to care about you? I mean.. I can imagine.. your heart is still..uhm..'' He pauses, again looking back at my locket.
''Occupied.''

I swallow. ''It is.'' I say sternly.

Soap opens his mouth to say something else as the door of the armory swings open.

Laswell stands in the opening, panting.

''Soap, Y/n..'' She says breathlessly. ''S-sarah.. she is awake!''

And just like that. Time stands still.

My eyes grow wide as I immediately snap my gaze to Soap, his eyes doing the exact same thing.

The flutter in my stomach has died down and instead my heart starts pounding so loud I'm sure everyone can hear it.

''S-she is awake?'' I feel my eyes water as I stare at Laswell in disbelief.

She nods. Her blond hair is still in her signature-bun. Her bodywarmer has some cigarette burn marks on it. ''I just got the radio call from critical.''

''Sweet creeping Jesus..'' Soap blurts out as he dashes past Laswell, quickening his pace towards the critical medical area we visited so often before.

I hurry behind him, followed by Laswell who is already radio-ing Price while trying to keep up with us.

The walls flash by as I am almost running, following Soaps mohawk as it leads me to.

Sarah.

The heavy medical door swings open, and there I see her.

Pale, even skinnier than before she opens her eyes slowly upon hearing us entering.

Deep dark circles around her eyes. Her red hair grew out a bit, as she now has brown roots.

She has four IV's. Two in each arm. A heart monitor which slowly beeps in the distance.

I stare at her, the sight of her is numbing me. The realization of how close she was to death finally settling in.

Then, she slowly turns her head. I notice they removed her oxygen mask as she smiles softly at me.

''Goodmorning...''
