We're running through the halls following Dr Bailey. I already love this job. We head down to the first floor and go through the big doors into the trauma room. Trauma centers are specialized units within an ER that are equipped to treat major traumatic injuries. We head outside and 3 ambulances park in front of us.
"We got a car crash on the highway, 2 are stable but need urgent care and the other needs surgery." The paramedic said
Everyone grabs an ambulances. Meredith goes with Christina. Alex goes with Izzy and Me and George stick together. We grab the second ambulance. The paramedic comes out
"Amelia Hart, age 23, was T boned in the accident and broke some of her ribs on her right side. She took some impact on her head but nothing concerning"
We take her inside and start her on painkillers and hook her up on the machines.
"Okay lets book an MRI"
I grab my flashlight and check to see how her pupil would react to the light but..
Oh gosh
"Someone page Dr Shepherd!"

Dr Shepherd is the head of Neurosurgery which is surgery performed on the nervous system, also known as the brain and spinal cord. When I saw Amelia's pupils not reacting to the light I paged Dr Shepherd because she has something called mydriasis which is when a pupil does not get smaller in bright light or expand in the dark, the pupil is not functioning normally.
They ran an MRI scan and saw she had a tumor in her brain. Dr Shepherd looked pleased
"First day here and you already found a brain tumor" he says in a deep voice and smiles "what's your name"
"Dr. Adeline or Katherine Adeline sir" I reply, proudly
"Well I'm impressed by this Dr. Adeline. You can scrub into this surgery. I'll give Dr Bailey a good word. She'll be proud" he replies
Oh my God, I haven't even been in for 2 hours and I'm going to scrub into a surgery!? "Thank you Dr Shepherd" I say trying to hold excitement. This is like a dream come true!
"Okay lets get these scans and book an OR" Dr Shepherd says
"I'll be right on it sir!"

Dr Shepard looks at me proudly. I feel amazing! I wash my hands and arms with soap and water, put on my mask, hat and gloves on. I walk into the OR and watch as everyone is ready.
"Amelia, count down from 10 for me" One of the nurses says as they inject anesthesia
"Okay. 10,9,8,7..6..5.......4...." Amelia says as she slowly falls asleep.
"Alright people, its a beautiful day to save lives. Let's start" Dr Shepard says.
I stand next to him and look up at the gallery. I see all my friends watching my first surgery. Jeez no pressure
"10 blade please" and with that the surgery started
