Now that Chaewon was finally looking away, Yunjin took this as a sign to just break it to her, "And they wanted to invite you over to dinner to thank you properly."
She waited for Chaewon's "Thanks but I'll pass" or any kind of rejection but there weren't any.
Yunjin starts fiddling with the zipper on her bag as she waits for Chaewon to respond.
"I don't think my parents would be available today," and there it was, the answer that Yunjin was waiting for.
But even if she expected Chaewon to decline, something about it still felt a bit sad to her. Nonetheless, she was happy she got the answer she wanted to receive.
"That's okay." Yunjin mumbles, still fiddling with her bag zipper and Chaewon looks up at her again.
"But I think I am."
What?
—
It was probably because of the lack of sleep, probably because she was hungry.
Apparently so hungry that hearing the word "dinner" made her want to go. But Chaewon can't think of a good enough reason why she was now on the way to the Huhs' house to eat dinner with the girl she despises.
She has no idea what came over her. She doesn't even remember her thought process anymore.
All she knew was that she was inside Yunjin's car, in the passenger seat, looking out the window and trying her very best not to look at the other girl.
There was a song playing on the radio but Yunjin had lowered the volume before they even left the campus. Chaewon would love to listen to some songs right now but considering the fact that she's tired and in desperate need of sleep, she is at least thankful that Yunjin lowered it.
On a normal day, she would have declined Yunjin's invitation. Yunjin didn't really outright invite her anyway, but what she means is that she probably said yes to dinner because she was tired.
Yeah, that could be it.
She came earlier than everyone else with Sieun and Soobin, and some of their other theater club members. Not only is she one of the main leads, but she's also in charge of some props onset.
She is starting to regret that now that she's feeling like she needs a three-day-long sleep.
But what can she do? She has already volunteered, and if Huh Yunjin could attend two other practices at the end of every rehearsal, Chaewon can do that, too.
Before Chaewon could even process what was happening, Yunjin had already left the car and was already parked in front of a house that Chaewon assumed to be Yunjin's home.
They had a fairly big front yard and Chaewon assumed this was where Yunjin always parked her car. There were two bikes parked on the other side, one of which, Chaewon was certain was the same bike that Yunjin had with her when she got caught in the rain.
Chaewon was so caught up in looking around the place that she didn't notice Yunjin opening the door for her. It was only when Yunjin had gently held her wrist that she felt like she woke up from the sleepy trance that she was in.
Yunjin held her wrist the same gentle way she would onstage.
But unlike when they were rehearsing, her touch didn't feel confident. Like she wasn't supposed to hold her like this the way she's supposed to onstage.
It almost felt like her touch was timid. And Chaewon's mind danced around it, trying to figure out why Yunjin felt like this.
And Yunjin refuses to meet her eyes as she helps her out of the car. "Are you tired? I can just drop you home and-"
