My eyes fluttered open to the feeling of the warm sun hitting my face, I brushed my hair out of my face before sitting up. I looked around before pulling the blanket off of me. Today was the first day of Royale High. I wasn't a student, unfortunately; I was one of the guards who got tomatoes thrown at them if we bow before the wrong princes and princesses. I got up and put on my tight undersuit, I put on my socks and walked to the bathroom of my dorm, I brushed my hair and then looked at my toothbrush. Normally I eat breakfast before brushing my teeth, but I don't think I want breakfast today; because it can and will delay my arrival. Even though I'm in the Royale High Knight quarters. I brushed my teeth and put ribbons in my hair for Cancer Awareness Month. I took a deep breath and walked outside of my cozy warm dorm and into the cold early morning of the castle. Other knights were chatting next to their dorm doors, as for me; I never normally talk to other knights. My dorm was #7 and it was decorated with ribbons and bright things like the other knights decorated their dorms, except for one. I don't know his name, but he lives right next door to me, he's number #8. I've never actually met him, but I've heard he was originally a dark fairy who studied here as a sophomore student but was made a knight as punishment for cheating on the graduation test. He is my age.
I walked down to the dining hall and looked around at the volunteering fairies who were putting up back-to-school decorations, I heard some commotion to the right side of me and turned. Mr. Higgins aka my favorite fellow staff member was struggling to put up the bright sprinkle lights because of his height. I walked over and placed the lights along the arch of the doorway just like how Mr. Higgins wished. "Thank you, Sir Oliver." He speaks kindly. I nod, "O-of course, but you may call me just Oliver. After all, we are both acquaintances." I replied. Mr. Higgins simply smiles and nods. I couldn't help but crack a smile at his reaction to my kindness. I skimmed my fingers along the lights and turned them on. I looked around again to see if I could help out with anything the fairies needed. It felt weird walking around with my helmet off and armor put away. I left the dining hall before saying goodbye to Mr. Higgins. I walked down to the knight's locker room and pulled out my armor, I saw a fellow knight enter the room. "Oh hello, Oliver!" Hans said. Hans was my... friend, and he has been since we were little. I know earlier I said I never talked to anyone else, so I guess I lied. I waved as I put my armor on carefully making sure not to pinch any skin on my body with the clashing metal. Once getting the armor on I walked over to him, "Hey, Hans." I spoke softly. He looked happy about something, he always was. "Hey, Ollie! I have a question for you." He replied, fixing his perfect and neat hair in the mirror.
I sighed; I didn't like when he called me Ollie. "I'll tell you this again, please only call me Oliver, but to follow up on your request... What is your question?" I ask curiously. He hesitated and nodded to my first comment. "So, the 'Back To School' dance is gonna be hosted soon and I was wondering if you were going with anyone?" He asked, making me wonder why he was asking. "No? I mean no one wants to do things like that with me." I reply simply. I wasn't a party person.
"Well, I'm gonna go with my girlfriend. You remember Casey, right?" He asks. I nod and he proceeds to tell me and brag about how perfect it's going to be with his girlfriend at the dance a week from now, as he talks on I just try to go on with my normal business. I walked down the halls and down to the place I despised the most. The dungeons. I hated that place, I had to guard the cells and prisoners so they couldn't escape the castle. It's not like I was weak, but still... I don't even know why the headmistress had a dungeon, nevertheless, I sat near one of the entryways. I heard the dungeon door creak open, and the sound of metal and boots clanging down the stairs. I then held my sword by my side preparing for perhaps an attack. However, what met my eyes was another passive pair just staring blankly at me through... a helmet! It was just another knight. Perhaps he forgot something crucial down here. Like his sword! Yet that didn't seem right. He had his sword etc. By his side, his armor was straight on like he had just gotten ready. "Hello?" I called out to him. He lifted his helmet revealing a dark brooding face, a scar stretching down from the top of his lip to the bottom like you see in those war movies. He gave me a soft grin; I couldn't help but feel my lips quiver nervously. He walked over to me, his food steps hitting the cobblestone flooring with no noise as if he was light a black swan's feather. "Hello, who might you be?" He asks before meeting my eyes. "I'm Sir, Oliver. Guardian of the Royale Dungeons." I reply cautiously. For all I knew he could have been one of those mimics I've been warned about.
