The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, as Maya and Andre eagerly awaited the gender reveal party they had planned with their closest friends and family. Excitement lingered in the air, blending with anticipation and pure joy. Little did they know that amidst the celebration, their pasts were slowly catching up to them.

As the guests arrived, laughter and cheerful conversation filled the backyard. Maya couldn't help but feel a pang of gratitude for the incredible support system they had built around them. Their loved ones had embraced their relationship and were genuinely thrilled to be part of this momentous occasion. As the guests gathered around the decorated table, Maya and Andre stood side by side, ready to unveil the surprise. Maya held the envelope containing the baby's gender tightly in her hand, her heart beating faster with every passing second. Andre clasped her hand, a mix of excitement and nervousness evident in his eyes.

"Alright, everyone," Maya announced, her voice filled with excitement. "Are you ready to find out if it's a boy or a girl?"

The crowd erupted in cheers and claps, their enthusiasm adding to the already electrifying atmosphere. Maya tore open the envelope, her eyes widening as she read the words written on the small piece of paper. And just as she was about to announce the gender, a sudden loud noise pierced the air. The joyous celebration turned into chaos as panic washed over the crowd. Maya's eyes widened in shock, her heart pounding in her chest. She felt a searing pain in her abdomen, causing her to crumble to the ground, clutching her stomach. Time seemed to slow down as the sounds of chaos muted, drowned out by the rush of blood in her ears.

Andre's instincts kicked in, his protective nature taking over. He immediately pulled Maya into his arms, shielding her from any further harm. Panic and determination surged through him as he surveyed the chaos around them. Tears streamed down his face as he shouted for someone to call an ambulance.
As the seconds ticked by, everything seemed to blur. The laughter and cheers were replaced by cries and screams. Andre held Maya tightly, fighting back tears and praying for her safety. Fear and anger clashed within him as he wondered who could have done such a dreadful act.

When the paramedics arrived, they quickly assessed Maya's condition and rushed her to the hospital, leaving behind an atmosphere of shock and despair. The once vibrant and celebratory scene now lay shattered, the shadows of fear and uncertainty looming over the gathering.

In the darkness of the hospital room, Andre sat by Maya's side, his hand tightly clasping hers. His heart ached with every beep of the machines, monitoring her vitals. The thought of losing her, of their dreams being shattered, was unbearable.

As the hours passed, Maya slowly regained consciousness, her eyes fluttering open to meet Andre's gaze. The love and fear in his eyes mirrored her own. She tried to speak, but her voice came out merely as a whisper.

"Andre..." was all she managed to say before exhaustion took over, her eyes falling shut.

Andre leaned in, his voice filled with a mixture of relief and anguish. "Maya, my love, you're safe. We're going to get through this together."

But even as hope began to flicker in their hearts, questions lingered in their minds. Who would want to hurt them? And more importantly, why? The shadows of their pasts had caught up to them, threatening to tear apart everything they had built.
