She reaches out and pats Yunjin's shoulder once, "Calm down. You're more nervous about Chaewon than anything, aren't you?"
The taller girl smiles sheepishly, "Am I that obvious?"
Sieun chuckled and nodded. Yunjin clicks her tongue and even snaps her fingers as if she is disappointed in herself for letting her nervousness show. "I'm just not used to this kind of setting. Being partnered with someone... and with Chaewon out of all the people." She scoffs at herself.
"I don't think she'd argue with you on stage, you know?"
"I know that. She'd do anything but sabotage her performance, especially if it's to tell me off. She'd probably wait until the very end before she confronts me about something." Yunjin says as she scratches the back of her head, unintentionally ruffling up her ginger hair.
"See? You said it yourself. Just do your best and you and Chaewon won't have any problems. You're already doing great." Yunjin flashed Sieun a genuine smile but before she could even thank the girl, Sieun was called backstage.
"Noona!" Sunoo calls out, "We need you to check on something for a moment."
"I'll be right there!" Sieun responds and she looks at Yunjin one last time, "Take a break first, Chaewon will be here in a few." She looks down at her phone to check the time, "Yeah. Her exam's almost done."
She walks past Yunjin, patting her shoulder before she disappears backstage.
Yunjin knew the president was only trying to calm her down but when she mentioned that Chaewon would be there any minute, she felt her stomach churn and her heart doing backflips.
She felt like throwing up with how both her stomach and heart felt like it was suddenly throwing a party inside her. Her palms started to sweat and she quickly wipes it on her pants. She was so confident on stage earlier, where did that confidence go now?
Chaewon wasn't even there yet and she's already losing her mind.
She feared that she might ruin this for Chaewon. So much for promising that she'd do everything she could and wouldn't get in Chaewon's way. So much for asking for one chance.
It hasn't even started yet and she's already eating her own words.
Yunjin let out a shaky sigh as she went backstage and sat down on one of the couches. She fixed her flannel before she sat on the couch horizontally with both her legs resting on the couch. Her feet dangling.
She held her script in one hand and her phone in the other. She read her parts over and over until she was sure all the words were engraved in her brain. But even if she does all of that, the nervousness is still there, chilling in the pit of her stomach.
She knows she should just relax and not think about it too much. But it's Chaewon we're talking about. If it was anyone but Chaewon, Yunjin would be totally fine.
She just wants to perform perfectly even if she is nowhere near close to being perfect. She was no professional in this field, she was just crazily skilled.
Born with the talent, they say. And it's times like these that Yunjin doesn't believe those words at all.
If she truly was born with such talent, everything would have come to her easily. (Everything does come to her easily, it may just be the thought of disappointing Chaewon that blinds her from seeing how talented she truly is in this field.)
At one point she gives up silently rehearsing in her head and she covers her face with the script. Closing her eyes as she laid her head against the armrest of the couch she was currently lying on.
