Script 9: Rehearsals

Start from the beginning

"Since Chaewon just got here, would it be okay to restart the whole thing? From the top?" Sieun asks Yunjin particularly. Well, it's not like Yunjin would refuse. They're kind of required to perform everything from the very start of the scene.

Yunjin nods, "I don't mind."

"Alright, great! From the top, everyone!" Chaewon goes to her spot to the side, she isn't supposed to appear until later and Yunjin does the same but she's on the opposite side.

Yunjin was fixing her hair when the music slowly started. Chaewon stares at the floor before slowly looking up, staring at Yunjin on the other side of the stage. She already had her own white masquerade mask on when Chaewon looked at her.

Chaewon had gotten used to the coldness of the room so when Yunjin starts walking to go up front, Chaewon takes her jacket off and throws it somewhere offstage.

Soobin taps her on the shoulder and hands her the white masquerade mask for the scene. He goes to the center to appear as an extra that Yunjin would be talking to as soon as Chaewon takes it from his hand. This would be the first time in a while that Chaewon would be wearing the masquerade mask.

Yunjin starts with her first few lines, pretending to meet the other characters for the first time, smiling, greeting, and laughing as they exchange words.

That exact scene goes on for a minute before the first dance of the ballroom scene starts. Yunjin has to dance with Sakura and Hanni first before getting pushed towards Wonyoung.

The scene where Yunjin dances with Sakura first is where Chaewon enters, dancing with Sunoo as she blends into the scene perfectly. Yunjin gets passed to Wonyoung and Chaewon gets transferred to Soobin.

Soobin pats her shoulder gently before he passes her to Sunghoon like he always does like a practiced habit.

Sunghoon greets him with a grin before he whispers, "Good luck." in a playful way. She scrunches up her nose before Sunghoon spins her around until she lands in Yunjin's arms. It was such a perfect move that Chaewon quietly gasped when Yunjin smoothly held her hand.

And for the first time that day, they finally met eyes.

Though they were looking at each other's eyes with a mask on.

Their dance for this scene is now slower as the three pairs that accompanied them on stage disappear backstage. They faintly hear Yizhuo call out, "Lights!" through her earpiece somewhere and Eunchae who was in charge of that booth immediately turns off all the other lights except one spotlight that would shine on both Chaewon and Yunjin.

They held their gaze as they stayed in character despite the glaring light that was shining on them. Both their skin looked paler in the spotlight and Sieun who was watching carefully somewhere in the seats was absolutely stunned.

The moment was too beautiful, like a Renaissance painting. With Yunjin and Chaewon's arms stretched out to the side as they intertwine their hands tightly, Chaewon's other hand placed on the taller girl's shoulder. She was gripping on it like her life depended on it and she could feel Yunjin's other shaky, cold hand barely touching her waist.

She would have rolled her eyes by now if she hadn't forgotten that they were acting. Chaewon gripped Yunjin's shoulder tighter and that was enough for Yunjin to understand what Chaewon was trying to tell her.

Chaewon could almost feel Yunjin's hand tremble when she finally held onto her waist. Yunjin smiles slightly, looking confident. In contrast to the way her hand trembled on Chaewon's waist.

She gently sways Chaewon to the side, continuing their dance.

"I have yet to lay eyes on a face like yours before." She says in a sweet tone that Chaewon almost forgot her line.
