Yunjin lightly scratched a spot on her cheek as she looked out the window, eyes following the signs, the houses, and the people that they'd be passing by.
"I don't know where she went the first time but she dragged me when she came back." A sigh was heard before she continued, "She basically tried to argue with me about the whole thing. I stopped her every time she would try to argue and we settled on an agreement."
Kazuha makes brief eye contact with Eunchae through the rear-view mirror before she turns her gaze back on the road, "What agreement?" she asks.
"It's-" Yunjin's phone makes a dinging noise and both Eunchae and Yunjin turn to look at Yunjin's phone that was neatly placed inside the small storage beside the car's gear. The older girl was quick to take her phone and Eunchae wasn't able to see what it was.
Eunchae only guessed that it was a message notification from someone. She just doesn't know who. Kazuha wasn't as curious as the younger girl, though.
For all she knows, Yunjin might be hitting a random cheerleader up like Ryujin, but then she remembers that Yunjin's too head over heels for Kim Chaewon to fool around with a random cheerleader.
Her best friend was a fool and she couldn't do anything about it.
Yunjin sees the name "Kim Chaewon" on the notifications. She didn't need to open her phone to see her message.
Kim Chaewon:
If you need anything for the documentation sheet, let's do it after the exams.
She turns her phone off and looks out the window and thinks about it for a second. Chaewon's message didn't sound mean. It didn't sound like she had completely let her guard down, though.
But maybe Yunjin can take this as a win because of what they talked about earlier in the hallway. Chaewon's message sounded at least civil and not up to fight Yunjin.
A small smile made its way on her lips and she was quick to hide it by coughing before swiftly covering her lips with her knuckles.
Kazuha caught the smile on her lips for a second before she faked coughing and hid behind her hand, the Japanese girl lowly chuckled as she slowly shook her head. She's no genius but it doesn't take one to know who made Yunjin smile like that.
Eunchae, clueless in the backseat silently stares at Yunjin's head as she waits for her cousin to continue what she was saying earlier. She taps her shoulder when she becomes impatient.
"What were you about to say??"
Yunjin glances at Eunchae for a second before speaking, "It's confidential."
And Eunchae just about lost it, having to wait for Yunjin to continue her words, only for her to tell her that it's confidential.
"Confidential my ass!" Eunchae angrily shouts in English.
"Hey!" Kazuha responds in English at the same time Yunjin says "Watch your damn mouth!"
Eunchae smiles mischievously at the two older girls' response to her saying a slightly bad thing in English. And finds it more hilarious because Yunjin curses ten times more than Kazuha and her.
And yet Yunjin still feels the need to scold her when she does.
She sticks her tongue out when Yunjin turns her head towards her to shoot her a glare jokingly.
Their car pulls over in front of the Huh's residence. Yunjin immediately steps out, calling out of Kazuha, "I'll park. Your mom's going to kill me if she sees you driving the car."
With that, Eunchae gets out of the car at the same time Kazuha does. They were going to have dinner at Yunjin's, it has become a common and practiced activity every once in a while ever since Yunjin came back from the States.
It all started when Yunjin invited Kazuha over for dinner. The moment the Japanese girl stepped into their house, Yunjin's family and Eunchae's family immediately fell in love with the girl and started treating her as their own.
So much so that they eventually invited the Nakamura's for dinner and that's how it would go ever since.
"Chaewon sent you a text, didn't she?" Kazuha asks the moment Yunjin stepped out of the car after she parked in their garage. Yunjin almost choked on air when Kazuha suddenly asked her.
She stared at her, looking bewildered. "What?"
"I saw you smiling earlier when you checked your phone. Unless you have a random girl on speed dial," Kazuha says with a shrug and a smug look on her face, she knew she was right and the look on Yunjin's face just about confirms it.
Yunjin bumps her shoulder against Kazuha's and the Japanese girl chuckles. That was enough for her to know that she was indeed right. Eunche didn't seem to hear or notice them as she entered the house before the two.
"I don't have a random girl on speed dial..." Yunjin mumbled as they slowly walked towards the porch.
Kazuha smiles, pocketing her hands inside her racer jacket that she matched with Yunjin, "I know."
"It was Chaewon..."
"I know," Kazuha repeats and Yunjin awkwardly walks like a drunk penguin. "She still hates me, though."
Kazuha chuckles, "I know."
"Don't tell Eunchae, she's nosy and I'm sure she'll force me to show her our conversation." Kazuha wasn't looking at Yunjin but she knew she had a slight pout on her lips. She could hear it.
"I can't promise you that."
"God, you're the worst kind of best friend." Yunjin power walks towards their porch, leaving Kazuha behind. She reaches her door and Kazuha shouts, "You still stick around anyways!"
"Unfortunately!" Yunjin shouts as she holds the door open before entering and letting the door shut on its own.
Kazuha doesn't know if she should just keep letting Yunjin act like a fool and let her silently pine over Chaewon or be the great friend that she is and snap Yunjin out of it and tell her that Chaewon would probably only see her as a competition, again.
But she shrugs the thought off as she sprints towards the door to keep it from shutting and she decides then and there that she should probably let Yunjin handle this on her own.
Taking Jaeyun's role away from Heeseung, Yeonjun, and Jongseong was Yunjin's decision anyway, she'll just wait for Yunjin to ask for help. But Kazuha doubts she'd be of any help anyway.
Helping a friend get over a "crush" that lasted for a whole year and six months is pretty tough, after all.
And some say if a crush lasts longer than three months, it's no longer just a crush.
Yunjin might just learn about that the hard way.
