Chapter 18:Unveiled Truths and Tangled Hearts

Start from the beginning

The witch's eyes sparkled with malicious glee as she let out a chilling, delighted cackle. "Oh, do go on, Blade!" she urged him with sinister enthusiasm. "This is even better than I could have imagined. A vampire and a Slayer? A forbidden child born from deceit? The poor child living a lie all these years? It simply doesn't get any juicier than this!" Her grin widened, reveling in the turmoil and drama of the revelation.

Trapped and immobilized, I could do nothing but seethe with anger. My gaze bore into the witch with a burning intensity, and if I weren't poisoned and paralyzed, I'd have gladly torn her apart for relishing in this twisted revelation.

Blade continued, his voice steady and filled with resolve. I sensed that he couldn't bring himself to meet my gaze. This revelation completely altered the dynamics between us, and I couldn't help but feel that it was for the worse.

"Her existence, a consequence of a dark act Fang, my brother, forced upon Celeste, was part of a malicious scheme," he confessed, his words weighted with a heavy sense of guilt and responsibility. "Years ago, she and several Slayers attempted to kill him. Obviously, it did not work. But as revenge, he concocted a vile experiment, designed to disgrace a Slayer like your mother and satisfy his twisted curiosity about the forbidden union between a human and a vampire. Could she even make it through the pregnancy? Only time would tell, and she did, with Aurora." Blade sighed as he revealed the sinister backstory of Aurora's existence.

As Blade spoke, I couldn't help but steal a glance at Aurora, who was suspended in the witch's magical bubble. A single tear trailed down her face, a silent, poignant expression of her shock and pain. She was trapped and mute, unable to voice her emotions, so that solitary tear spoke volumes about her inner turmoil.

Blade's face grew stern as he went on. "Fang was heartless in his cruelty, finding pleasure in his sick games. At one point, Celeste, in a desperate attempt to shield her daughter from a dark reality, asked for my help. I heartlessly turned down her plea, not caring about the consequences of their situation. After all, she was a vampire Slayer- a sworn enemy and killer of my kind." He sighed as he finished. "Eventually, Celeste was able to figure out, on her own, how to hide the truth about her daughter by using the talisman that is around Aurora's neck; it suppresses her vampiric instincts and powers." Blade finally trailed off.

So many emotions flew through my mind at the reality of his words.

Eventually, I found my voice, my throat dry like sandpaper.

"Why would you keep such a secret?" I found myself asking, unable to mask the sense of betrayal in my voice.

Blade's eyes met mine, filled with a deep, unspoken remorse. "It wasn't my secret to tell," he explained, his voice somber. "That burden belonged to Celeste. She chose to protect Aurora from the truth of her heritage, a decision I respected."

The revelation brought a heavy silence. Blade's confession had unraveled a web of secrets and ties that bound us in ways we never imagined.

As Blade's revelation echoed through the clearing, the witch started to slowly clap, her face a mask of complex emotions, oscillating between apparent satisfaction and a twisted kind of sorrow. Tears streaked down her green cheeks, revealing a tumultuous storm within her. It was a bizarre spectacle, seeing her caught between reveling in the chaos she had orchestrated and some deeper, unspoken sentiment. She was clearly crazy.

Her expression acknowledged the authenticity of Blade's words. The sadistic pleasure she had previously taken in our torment now gave way to a contemplative look, as if the depth of the confession had struck a chord even in her twisted heart. The black poison that had ensnared me began to recede, its ominous advance halting and retreating back under my skin. Simultaneously, the magical bubble that imprisoned Aurora and Marcus started to lower, releasing them from their aerial confinement.
