Christine's POV:

Sometimes, I wonder if life for others like me is anything but bitter. Then again, I haven't always been the most positive person, and not all orphans are like me. Some knew their parents for years, if not weeks or months, before getting left at an orphanage or foster home. In my case, I didn't know my parents or the people who brought me to my first home, assuming those people weren't my parents. Since then, I went from one place to another until I turned eighteen. After that, I made my own home in the one place I felt welcome, even if that place only had me living there.

As for earning money, there isn't much work available to someone with no prior work experience, so I do the only thing I know how to do: find a busy street with little to no police and put the lessons my second foster family gave me to use.

Me:

Somewhere over the rainbow

Way up high

There's a land that I heard of

Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow

Skies are blue

And the dreams that you dare to dream

Really do come true

Someday, I'll wish upon a star

And wake up where the clouds are far behind me

Where troubles melt like lemon drops

Away above the chimney tops

That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly

Birds fly over the rainbow

Why then, oh, why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow

Why, oh why can't I?

As usual, only a few people are willing to give, but I pick up the odd sovereign from those who are. But today, there's something new in my collection bag: chocolate. I see a man wearing a purple suit and a brown top hat.

Me: "Can I help you?"

Willy: "I could ask you the same thing."

Me: "Thanks, but I don't need any help."

Willy: "Then what are you doing out here instead of at home where it's warm?"

Me: "For one thing, it's not very warm right now, but it's still better than the others."

Wonka: "You have more than one home?"

Me: "Not exactly. Besides, how is chocolate going to help me?"

Wonka: "Because my chocolate is unlike any other."

Me: "Well, so is my home, and I guarantee it can provide me more comfort than any chocolate can."

Wonka: "Well, you've never tried mine. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Willy Wonka, and if you like, you can come with me and try as many of them as you want. I could always use a second opinion."

Me: "Uh-huh. So how much are they paying you?"

Willy: "What?"

Me: "I will say that your outfit is unlike your colleagues', but then again, I've been tricked by worse actors hired by the agency. Do yourself a favor. Don't try using chocolates next time. It spooks the younger ones, and it's just plain weird."
