I wrapped my arms around my mother, and we stayed like that for a few seconds.

"You stink," Mother said, breaking the silence. I lifted my hands to smell myself.

"No, I don't!" I protested.

"Yes you do; now go upstairs and do the needful." My jaw dropped before laughter escaped my lips.

"Yes, mum." I got up and took hold of my backpack before heading up the stairs.

I dropped my backpack on my bed after retrieving my phone. I felt it was an okay time to call Damian since Mum's punishment of me and Thompson took a whooping thirty minutes. Yes, we kneeled for thirty minutes, and my knee still hurt.

"Nsikan." Damian's soothing voice came from the phone.

"How did it go?" There was a pause as if someone were speaking to him.

"Fine," he answered. "The evidence was enough to put him in prison. He has the right to a lawyer, but his chances of winning are very slim. The downside is that the police couldn't track Miss. Simbi, she'd vanished into thin air."

I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. Yes, it would've been great if they'd also arrested Miss. Simbi for attempted murder, but what can we do? Voices came again, and I furrowed my brows.

"Where are you?" I questioned.

"At the hospital with my mother," I gave her the news and tipped the media off as well. My uncle will be over the internet again, and the chances of him winning will be slimmer."

"I can't believe it's over." I lay on the bed, not minding the fact that I might dirty it with my sweaty uniform. "I mean with your uncle. You can now take care of your mother while reading for the exams."

"It's all thanks to you guys, especially you, Nsikan. I'm glad I spoke to you when you splashed Pepsi all over me. Or was it coke?"

"You asked what I was doing when I tried putting the spilt content back into the bottle." I smiled, covering my face shyly. I wasn't sure how deeply I'd fallen for Damian, but I have. Mum called it puppy love and said it was normal to have crushes at my age.

"I love you, Nsikan." My eyes widened as I sat upright. His actions towards me showed it, but I couldn't help but feel shocked whenever he mentioned that word.

We kept talking for hours, and it was one of the longest phone calls I've made.

The new head boy stood at the podium, as every eye was on him. Every student around us was grinning from ear to ear, aside from the Ss3 students. It was Monday, and our first paper happened to be WAEC. The large hall meant for the exam had been cleaned and ready for the exams. CCTV cameras had also been installed on every corner of the large hall to avoid exam malpractice. No one liked the fact that we were starting with math, especially me.

"I heard our school has six invigilators," Stella whispered to me.

"Six!" My eyes widened. Everyone within our range let out a loud groan.

"No one can turn their head; I'm not sure anyone can even blink comfortably." Stella continued.

"You're being dramatic, Stella." Muller rolled his eyes.

"Don't call her dramatic." Chuks waved his hands at Muller's face. "Six invigilators with about four cameras watching us. Na, we kill Jesus?"

"Other schools are helping their students pass by bribing the external invigilators; ours will be making things difficult for us," Stella continued where she left off. "Damian, Thompson, and Lara are not complaining because they are the gurus."
