chapter three !

└─── °∘❉∘° ───┘

All the tributes and their mentors sat in the hall. At a table, each of them talked to one another.

During the meeting, one of the tributes had stabbed their mentor with a piece of a broken glass bottle. And yet, they continued the games.

"I'm really sorry about your friend." Juniper spoke. She had handcuffs scraped against her wrists.

"She wasn't my- Uh thanks." Coriolanus reworded and fiddled with his pen he was handed by the peacekeepers.

Juniper looked around the hall at the others, they all looked tired and confused.

And she couldn't help them. It pained her to see them in so much pain but she couldn't stop anything.

So, she just had to sit there and win the games. "Miss Wildsong." Coriolanus spoke with a small stutter.

"Juniper. June." She corrected him, throwing on a smile with it.

Coriolanus laughs softly, "Do you think you will win. The games?"

June looks up at him, she takes a deep breath in. "In this twisted game," She says.

Coriolanus listened to Juniper carefully as she spoke. "Only the strongest shall survive," she said. Coriolanus couldn't help but nod in agreement.

"So, what is your plan for the Games?" Coriolanus asked, taking out a notepad and pen.

He was still studying the young girl, taking note of everything about her, from her voice to her facial expressions.

"I plan to win," Juniper said with absolute certainty.

Coriolanus's eyes widened in surprise as he wrote down her response. She was bold and confident, he liked that.

Coriolanus looked at Juniper with great interest and fascination. She was so different from the other tributes that he knew of.

She wasn't afraid of him or the consequences of winning the Games.

She was determined to win, and he admired that about her.

"And how will you do that?" Coriolanus asked curiously, taking out his notepad once more to write down another response from the young girl.

She was different than all of the other tributes that he had spoken to. She was not afraid of him, and she was determined to win.

"With the help of you, Mr. Coriolanus Snow, of course." June said with a smile. Coriolanus couldn't help but be intrigued.

She was so confident and sure of herself. She had already made up her mind about him.

"Mr. Coriolanus Snow?" June raised her eyebrow with a smirk. She was testing him.

Coriolanus smiled slightly at her response, it was funny to him that she had already decided to refer to him so formally.

Coriolanus nodded in agreement to her suggestion. He would help her, he had no other choice.

June turned to see that Coriolanus was the figure that had come to her side. After a moment, he broke her gaze and met hers with his own.

"Okay, let's head out." A peacekeeper pushed the girl forwards and commanded.

They entered the dark arena on the second occasion. June reached for Coriolanus' hand, desperate to grasp onto something familiar

And it was in holding his embrace that she found peace of mind.

Coriolanus, unaccustomed to this kind of behaviour, cast a downward glance at their hands.

But as they push through a turnstile, he gives her a hand squeeze and words of comfort.

Juniper was quickly startled by the sound of a voice on the speakers, "Enjoy the show."

The tributes spoke against one another, forming teams and figuring out how to survive.

Coriolanus stood by Juniper's side the whole time. She studied each player, some being confident and others being very nervous.

She was aware that this would be simple. A wave of hope overcame her while observing everyone.

June knew she was going to easily win the games.
