44 : Image Of A Black Hole

"Deep space exploration. We've gone way out. And listen to that." He paused, and made them listen. He could hear the whirring, the sound buzzing in his ears. "Underneath. Someone's drilling."

"Welcome to hell." Rose said, rather slowly.

The Doctor frowned. "Oh, it's not that bad."

"Don't know about that." EJ grumbled, still taking it all in. "There's no central heating and it feels like January."

"No, over there." Rose directed them towards a wall with writing on it. There were runes that EJ didn't understand, but then, there was spray paint, and there it read 'WELCOME TO HELL'.

"Hold on." The Doctor paused. "What does that say?"

He rushed over to the wall, and crouched down beside it. The runes hadn't been translated. EJ didn't know how it had evaded the Tardis systems. This was going to be more fun than it first appeared.

"That's weird." He confirmed the Thompson boy's thoughts. "It won't translate."

"I thought the Tardis translated everything, writing as well." Rose hummed. "I should see English."

"Exactly, and if that's not working, then it means this writing is old. Very old. Impossibly old. We should find out who's in charge."

"You said she wasn't feeling well." EJ offered, but it wasn't much. "Maybe it's something to do with that."

"We've gone beyond the reach of the Tardis' knowledge. Not a good move." The Doctor said as he reached for another door.

  "Open door 19."

"And if someone's looking, we shouldn't... oh!"

Admittedly, EJ wasn't being the best that he could be today. There were many things distracting him, the Doctor being one of them, and he would have normally realised first. There were people behind the door. Or... sort of people.

They were like clones, three of them in total, identical. Grey creatures sigh beady eyes and tentacles instead of a mouth. A plastic white ball came from the same place, and rested upon their clothes. They too were grey.

"Right. Hello. Sorry." The Doctor grinned at them, apologetically. "I was just saying, nice base."

  "We must feed."

EJ wasn't expecting them to speak. He jumped backwards. He'd resigned himself from speaking for the time being. The Doctor was taking charge. "You've got to what?"

  "We must feed."

"Yeah," Rose panicked slightly as they moved backwards, keeping their distance from the creatures. "I think they mean us."

"We must feed. We must feed."

Another two doors opened without them even going near them. Now, none of these creatures were walking towards them. EJ couldn't tell if they were intimidating, or just extremely bad communications. Or, if the Tardis wasn't translating properly, then maybe they were actually saying something completely different.

"Not me." EJ countered as he hid himself behind the Doctor, pathetically. For once, it was nice to have someone willing to save him. "I haven't got a piece of meat on me."

Rose picked up a chair, keeping them at a decent distance away, but it wasn't much of a weapon as they were backed against a wall. "We must feed. We must feed." Then, it shook the plastic sphere in its hands, and hit it before trying again. "You. If you are hungry."
