Chapter 8: Magma Breather

Y/n's Pov:
I walked into the kitchen and walked up to the fridge.
"Morning, sunshine." Mom said
I let out a tired grunt before opening the fridge and my brother walked into the room.
"I hope that was a rested and ready to face the day grunt." Mom said
I just sighed not finding anything in the fridge turning to look at mom who was putting some stuff in a backpack.
"What are you doing?" Tom asks
"Getting ready to explore some caves I found in the fissure." Mom says
I immediately closed the fridge door quickly.
"What? No, why?" I asked
"Because that's why we're here, kiddos. Scientific research." Mom says
"Right. (He laughs nervously) right." Tom says
"Yeah, your right. I guess." I said
Mom then walked over to the tv and my brother and I followed her.
"I spotted something with one of the ICARIS scout drones. It looks like a vein of auriferous quartz that could lead to a large deposit of-" Mom explains but I cut her off.
"Gold." Tom and I said
"Gold is right." Mom says
"And you think we don't listen to you." Tom says
"Oh, I know Y/n listens, every now and then. But you, I know you only listen when it's convenient. Look.(she clicks the remote) It's here in sector nine." Mom says
"Way over there? Oh, that's perfect. It's nowhere near sector two." Tom says
"Sector two?" Mom questions
I quickly elbowed my brother.
"What he means, is of all the sectors there are, sector two looks the most, boring out of all of them." I said
"Yeah, but nine? Nine looks awesome." Tom says
The tv screen beeped and Dr. Sledkin appeared on the screen.
"Good morning, Olivia." Dr. Sledkin says
"Dr. Sledkin..." Mom says
"There's been a change of plans. Director Wong and I need you to map some caves with Dr. Karsten in sector two." Dr. Sledkin says
My brother and I's eyes widened.
"Sector two? The mineral deposit Odin sector nine." Mom questions 
"Yes. I'll lead a team there to check out your quartz discovery." Dr. Sledkin says
"You'll lead?" Mom questions 
"I've checked with Rakke Corp, and they'd prefer you do the mapping with Dr. Karsten. You are, after all, the explorer in the group, aren't you?" Dr.Sledkin says before the tv turns off
"Great. Looks like I'm headed to sector two, after all." Mom says
Tom and I look at each other with wide eyes.
