I hold my head in my hand. No, that can't be. The man who abducted me..does he work for Vince?
I guess Ghost was right, I guess he did hold a grudge towards me.

I feel my heart sink with regret as I remember my fight with Ghost.

God, I shouldn't be so stubborn with him. He meant well, just doing his job as my Lieutenant to keep me safe and be strategic about it. I just went and pushed him to his boiling point.

I snap out of my thoughts as I feel Sarah's hand on my arm.
''You feeling okay?'' She asks gently.

I smile softly at her. ''Yeah, sorry. Still a bit woozy.''

Sarah nods. ''Take it easy. I felt the exact same way when I woke up.''

My expression softens as I see her tired expression, suddenly realizing she has been here longer than I have. All by herself.

Sarah notices my compassionate gaze as she smiles. ''It's so good to see you again y/n, even if it's under these circumstances. How is your new base? Are you happy with your transfer? People treating you well?''

I feel a lump grow in my throat as I see her hopeful, gentle expression.

I can't let her down. I can't tell her I am fighting with my Lieutenant almost every day, and that I screwed things up big time.

''it's..different.'' I say swallowing, looking at the ground.

Sarah opens her mouth to say something, but then quickly closes it.

She just keeps caressing my hand, as she waits for me to say something again.

I take a deep breath. ''The captain is really nice, and I actually reconnected with someone I once had a mission with. Remember mission blue in Amsterdam years ago?'' I try to sound more cheerful to lighten the mood.

Sarah nods. ''Wow, what a coincidence! I remember you told me about him. What was his callsign again? Something with an S?''

''Soap.'' I say smiling. ''He was just as nice as he was back then.''

''What about your Lieutenant?'' Sarah asks excitedly.
''The one who had no picture in the transfer file?'' She asks, cocking her head.

''Ghost.'' I say slowly. ''Lieutenant Ghost. He..uhm.. well...we differ.'' I say a bit awkwardly.

Sarah stays quiet for a little bit, but then lets out a soft chuckle.
. ''Why did I already expect you would headbutt with your superior?''

Her chuckle feels a bit misplaced to me, as I just look at her with an irritated expression.

''What's that supposed to mean?''

Sarah holds her hands up as she chuckles still. ''No, no nothing. We just know how stubborn you can be y/n. The chances were high, really.''

My expression saddens as I stare at the floor. Sarah picks up on it quickly as she moves her head lower to meet my gaze.
'But this is different isn't it?'' She says, her tone now a bit more serious and gentle. ''Did it escalate?''

''It doesn't matter.'' I say dismissively, not wanting to talk about it. ''I'm sorry Sarah, but it's very... complicated.''

Sarah nods. ''It's okay.'' She decides to drop the topic, as she can probably tell how much it pains me.

''How are things at the base since i left?'' I ask as I try to move to another topic.

Sarah sighs, now it's her turn to look worried.

''Atlas got hurt during our latest mission. Nothing too serious, broken leg and collarbone. He has been on radio duty ever since..''

''..which is his preference anyway..'' I chuckle, remembering the nerdy Atlas not being very fond of the field. He was happiest behind his laptop, strategizing or researching.
