CH 12. The Good, The Bad, The Squid

Start from the beginning

"If it makes you feel any better, a lot of rich people eat this kind of stuff"

You deadpanned at her while chewing "Weirdos..."

In the front seat, Ai was sitting with her hat while motioning from side to side while humming a tune. She was awake when Max started driving late at night all of a sudden. She didn't know why, but she wasn't curious enough to say anything. It didn't help that he had obvious bags under his eyes either

"You know, this has probably been some of the best weeks of my life. Even with some of the close death experiences" Ai said

"Glad someone's enjoying themselves" Gwen grumbled "As for me, I can't wait until I'm back home safe and sound from any aliens"

"Who's to say that? Hehe, what if your Mom's car is secretly an alien too"

"Huh?! Don't do that! You'll give me nightmares!"

While you were laughing at her dismay, she shook her head before returning to typing on her computer. You scratched your cheek, slightly noticing that the RV hadn't stopped since you'd woken up "Hey, Gramps. When's the next pit stop?"

"We're not stopping for a bit, Y/N, sorry. I want to get to Mt. Rushmore by nightfall"

"Why Mt. Rushmore? Shouldn't we stop at a hotel or something"

"Not right now" He said rubbing his tired eyes "I want us to get a good picture"

You didn't fully believe him, but you weren't going to question him either. It's not like you cared how fast you got there anyway. Turning to Gwen, you gave her a cheerful smile "Gwen, can I play on your laptop?"

"Hmm...No"

"Huh, Why not? It's only for a minute, come on let me play" You pleaded, reaching across the table for it

Raising it into the air, she kept it out of your reach "I'm using it right now. Play rock, paper scissors with Ai or something" She replied, causing you to groan in annoyance

"She always mops the floor with me, why would I want to play against someone I'm obviously going to lose to?"

"Well, go entertain yourself or something, I'm using it"

Using your palm to keep your head up, you started to think of things that could be fun for the time being. You were kind of hoping something alien would happen, but since that didn't seem likely, another idea came to mind

Gwen was so focused on what she was typing that she failed to notice the light flash throughout the RV. Up in space, Vilgax was staring at a screen waiting for a signal to pop up on the map. He hadn't taken his eyes off the screen since he got out of the chamber

Finally, his patience was rewarded when the hourglass of the Omnitrix popped onto it "The Omnimatrix has been activated. Pinpoint it's location!"

Back down on earth, Gwen was shaking her computer around "Get out of there! You're invading my privacy!"

"Ew! Look at all this nerd talk!" You gagged in your Upgrade form while scrolling through chat logs that Gwen had with your friend from New York "Who knew William was kind of a loser...What the heck is Energon?"

The ruckus behind him brought him out of his tired daze "Y/N, now's not the time to be using the Omnitrix. We can't afford to attract attention"

"Attention?" You got out of Gwen's computer and landed on your seat "What kind of attention can I attract?" You asked motioning toward the field outside "We're in the middle of nowhere"

Unexpectedly, the Omnitrix timed out a lot quicker than you thought it would "Hey, it did this when I first got it too" You mumbled looking at the red hourglass
