My heartbeat quickened, and I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves.

A few moments later the door of his car opened.

I turned away from the window.

Even air felt like a barrier, separating me from the conversation I knew I needed to have.

I heard the soft click of the door being pushed open.

Luca stepped into the room, his eyes immediately finding mine.

There was a warmth in his gaze, but I could also sense a hint of concern.

"Hey," he said softly, his voice breaking the silence that had enveloped us.

"Hi," I replied, my voice trembling slightly.

Luca closed the door behind him and took a few steps closer, closing the distance between us.

He looked at me, waiting for me to speak, but the words caught in my throat.

I could see the worry in his eyes now, and it only made my anxiety spike.

I had rehearsed this conversation a hundred times in my mind, but now that the moment had arrived, I felt overwhelmed.

I told you!

Not the time PLEASE.

Ok, go girl

"Leah, is everything okay?" Luca asked gently, his concern deepening.

I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice. "Luca," I began, my words coming out in a shaky whisper, "there's something I need to talk to you about."

His brows furrowed, and he nodded, giving me his full attention.

"Of course. You can tell me."

I took another deep breath, summoning the courage to continue.

"It's about us, about me, you, about the kids… It's about everything."

Luca's expression grew serious as he listened intently.

I could feel the weight of his gaze on me, but I couldn't bring myself to meet his eyes.

Instead, I stared at the floor, my hands fidgeted with my fingers.

"I've been thinking a lot lately," I admitted, "about where we're headed, about what all of this means. I have so many fears and doubts, Luca, and I can't keep ignoring them."

Silence hung in the room, heavy and filled with unspoken words.

I knew I needed to say more, to explain my feelings, but the fear of his reaction held me back.

I could feel Luca's presence, his patience, as he waited for me to continue.

It gave me the strength to vocalize my fears and concerns, one by one.

"I'm kinda scared, Luca," I admitted, my voice quivering. "I'm scared of being in a relationship again, of letting someone in. It's been so long since I've felt this way, and I don't know if I remember how to do it right."

I paused, glancing up at him briefly before looking away again.

"And then there are the kids," I continued. "I love them so much, and I'm terrified of messing things up for them. What if they get attached and things don't work out? What if they get hurt?"

I let out a shaky breath. "And I'm scared of myself, Luca," I confessed. "if I'm enough for all the responsibilities that come with it."

My voice trailed off, and I fell into a heavy silence, feeling the weight of my fears pressing down on me.

But then, as I continued to avoid his gaze, I mustered the courage for the most difficult part.

"But, Luca," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, "despite all my thoughts, despite everything, I... I honestly like you too."

I felt my cheeks burn with embarrassment as I finally looked up at him, my eyes searching his for a reaction.

I could see a myriad of emotions crossing his face—surprise, relief, and something that looked a lot like happiness.

His eyes softened as he stepped closer, gently cupping my cheek with his hand.

"Leah," he said softly, "thank you for being honest with me. Your fears, your doubts, they're all valid, and I understand. And you don't need to worry about your responsibilities because I know you'll be okay."

I felt a warmth spreading through me as he spoke, and the tension that had been coiled within me began to ease.

I knew there were still many conversations and uncertainties ahead of us, but for now, in that moment, I felt a glimmer of hope.

Luca leaned in slowly, giving me ample time to pull away if I wanted to, and then his lips met mine in a soft, tender kiss.

It was a kiss filled with promise, with the unspoken understanding that we would take this one step at a time, facing our fears together.

As our lips parted, Luca whispered, "I promised I'd finish didn't I?"

I couldn't help but smile "Only Luca Romano" I sighed.
