Leah's POV

The next day dawned bright and clear, a stark contrast to the storm of emotions that had raged within me the night before.

I woke up with a renewed sense of determination to address the issue with Luca, but also with a strong desire to ensure that the family's dynamics remained harmonious.

I found Luca already awake, seated at the kitchen island with a cup of coffee in his hand, deep in thought.

He looked up as I entered the room, and there was a mix of weariness and resolve in his eyes.

"Morning," he greeted his voice a bit husky from sleep.

I nodded in response, pouring myself a cup of tea before taking the seat across from him.

The silence lingered for a moment, the weight of last night's tension still palpable.

"We need to talk," I finally said, my tone firm but not accusatory.

Luca sighed, leaning back in his chair. "I know, Leah. I messed up last night, and I'm truly sorry."

I appreciated his honesty and willingness to address the situation.

"It's not just about last night," I explained.

"It's about communication, Luca. We're supposed to work together, especially when it comes to the kids. We need to be on the same page."

He nodded, his expression serious. "You're right. I should have kept you informed."

I took a sip of my tea, gathering my thoughts.

"And it's not just about me being upset with you. It's about Gabriel too. He needs to know that he can count on you, that you value what is needed for him."

Luca's gaze softened, and he nodded in response.

I studied him for a moment, seeing the genuine remorse in his eyes.

"But you need to work on this, Luca. You need to find a balance between your responsibilities and family."

"I promise, Leah. I'll make it a priority. I'll find a way to ensure that the kids always come first."

A small smile tugged at my lips, "Good. Because
I'm not gonna be here forever, Luca."

He nodded, his jaw coaching at my words.

"I know, Leah" he sighed, he kinda sounded disappointed at that fact.

Maybe I'm not reading him right?

As the day carried on, I couldn't help but notice the lingering tension between us.

Our conversation had been productive, but there underlying secrets we were both avoiding still simmered beneath the surface.

After our talk, Luca and I went about our usual routine, me: taking care of the kids, him: work, me:managing household matters and attending to our respective responsibilities.

The day passed by quickly, and before I knew it, the evening had descended upon us.

With the kids settled in their rooms for the night, I found myself standing by the window, gazing out at the city lights.

My heart felt heavy with unspoken words and unshared emotions.

It was frustrating to be so close to Zach, yet still so far apart.

I heard someone behind me, and I turned to see Luca coming down the stairs.

He paused for a moment, his gaze locking with mine.

There was a flicker of something in his eyes, a depth of emotion that I couldn't quite decipher.

"Leah," he began, his voice soft but hesitant.

"About earlier, I meant what I said. I'm committed to finding that balance."

I nodded, appreciating his sincerity.

"I know you are, Luca. And I'm glad we're on the same page."

He took a steps closer, his expression earnest. "There's something else I want to say."

I felt my heart quicken at his words, a mixture of anticipation and anxiety swirling within me.

"And what is it?"

He hesitated for a moment as if searching for the right words.

"Leah, I... I value your opinion more than anyone else's. Your insights, your care for the kids, it all matters to me."

I blinked in surprise, not expecting his confession. His words hung in the air between us, charged with a vulnerability that I hadn't seen before.

My mind raced, my own feelings threatening to spill over.

"Luca," I started, my voice a bit shaky.

"I... I feel the same way. Your dedication to try and take care of your family, your willingness to listen and adapt, it means a lot to me too."

He nodded, his gaze unwavering.

"Leah, there's something I've been meaning to tell you for a while now. It's just... I haven't found the right moment."

My heart pounded in my chest, the suspense nearly unbearable.

"What is it, Luca?"

He took a deep breath, his eyes locking with mine. "Leah, I—"

Before he could finish his sentence, someone ran down the stairs, and Bella appeared with a mischievous grin.

"Mammy, can you read me a bedtime story?"

The moment shattered, and Luca and I exchanged a knowing glance.

It seemed that fate had once again intervened, keeping my emotions at bay.

"Of course, sweetheart," I replied, my voice steady despite the turmoil within me.

"Let's go pick out a story."

As I followed Bella out of the room, I couldn't help but wonder what Luca had been about to say.

The unspoken words hung in the air, a reminder that beneath our shared responsibilities and unspoken emotions, there was a connection that even I couldn't deny.

I know that was kinda disappointing, but you'll soon see what he wanted to say.
