Leah's POV

The soft glow of the fireplace flickered in the dimly lit room as I waited, my heart pounding with a mix of determination and concern.

Luca had just returned from what looked like a gruelling day, and I knew he needed to eat – something he had likely neglected in his pursuit of business matters.

I stood by the dining table, my arms folded across my chest, as Luca walked in.

I've done this for the last 4 days but he always ends up never eating and I've had enough.

He had to eat.

His suit was surprisingly neat but his expression was weary.

His eyes narrowed at the sight of me, and I could almost see the questions forming on his lips.

"Leah, I have work to do," he stated firmly, his voice carrying the weight of his responsibilities.

I took a step closer, my gaze locking onto his.

"You've been saying that for the past four days," I retorted, my tone a mixture of frustration and concern.

He sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly.

"I have deadlines to meet, Leah. You know how crucial these documents are."

I nodded, understanding the importance of his work.

But I couldn't let him continue to neglect his well-being.

With a determined breath, I moved swiftly, reaching out to pluck the papers from his hand.

"Leah, what are you doing?" he exclaimed, his eyes widening as I held the documents dangerously close to the dancing flames.

"I counted, Luca," I said, my voice unwavering despite the turmoil within me.

"Four days – you haven't eaten a proper meal in four days."

He tried to walk towards me but the closer he got the closer I lowered to papers into the fire.

He stopped realizing what I was doing.

He glared at me, his jaw tightening. "This isn't the way to handle things, Leah. Those papers will probably be the only copy ever made in the world"

I met his gaze, my own determination matching his.

"Then eat, Luca. Sit down and have a meal. And your precious work won't suffer if you take care of yourself."

He hesitated, a battle of wills waging within him.

I knew he was torn between his responsibilities and his concern for me.

But I refused to back down – not when his health was at stake.

With a resigned exhale, he finally relented, sinking into a chair at the dining table.

I released a breath I hadn't realized I was holding.

The plate was already set before him, he regarded me with a mixture of irritation and reluctant gratitude.

"You always find a way to push my buttons, don't you?"

I offered an innocent smile, my heart easing as I saw him take the first bite. "Someone has to, Luca. And it seems that job falls on me."

He continued to eat, his focus on the meal before him.

I realised he was rushing.

"If dare eat fast say bye-bye to your papers" I warned.

He sighed which got a giggle from me.

The room was filled with a comfortable silence, broken only by the soft crackling of the fire.

Once he had finished, he leaned back in his chair, regarding me with a mixture of amusement and accomplishment.

"Happy now?"

"Nope," I shook my head "First, how was your food?" I asked.

"Really?" he rose his brow.

I nodded my head. "Um,  it was good I guess" he said looking at me.

"Nope, I want details" I explained.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"It was...great, there were... Good flavours I guess" You could hear he just wants to go.

I sighed, he at least tried.

I nodded, a sense of accomplishment washing over me.

"I'm happy now. You need to take care of yourself, Luca."

He sighed, his expression softening. "I know, Leah."

A rare warmth settled between us, a reminder of the bond that had grown stronger between us.

As the fire continued to cast dancing shadows on the walls, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment.

Luca, do I like you?
