"Malaya don't!"

It couldn't be helped; I was already falling into the shadows. Instead of connecting face first into the ground, I went through it. There was one thing no one mentioned about being in the darkness, it was the emptiness. Well, that should be a given. Not only was there no light seen but there was no one inside. Not a flicker of hope. It was cold but not the cold I normally feel. For a minute, I liked it.

"You have to be careful Malaya, the cold is always drawn to darkness."

Is this what he meant? Am I losing sight of things? Is this the reason my dad's lost?

PRESENT TIME

"Malaya, Malaya, wake up!" The voice called, waking me from my sleep. The only person it could be is my mom.

"Mom." I whined, rubbing the sleep from my eyes and breaking out in a yawn. "Why are you waking me up so early?" I asked while dragging the covers over my head, but she immediately pulled it off.

"I think it's time for you to leave. No, I know it's time for you to leave. I shouldn't have kept you here." My mom rushed. I could feel my stomach sink. It was then that when I finally looked at her and saw how worried she looked.

"What? Mom, I don't understand what you're saying?" My eyebrows crease in confusion. My eyes watched as my mom took a seat on my bed breathing in and out. I knew that technique very well. She was trying to be calm.

What is happening?

She spreads her hands wide to gesticulate the state of my room. "Look around you, Malaya. You don't have control."

That's when I finally sat up on my bed and scanned my room. I was obsessed with purple, and my wallpapers were purple, with black floral designs like vines. I had my very own bookcase and a walk-in closet, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was that everything was covered in frost. The prettiest shade of light blue I've ever seen, but I didn't do this by choice. It happened when I was sleeping.

"I don't know how this happened. It wasn't like this when I went to bed." I said even though it was a big deal since it was my entire room this time, her reaction still made it seem as if it was something more.

"I know honey, I know. That's why you should go. You could hurt yourself or someone else. I shouldn't have let you reject the application."

I almost got whiplashed by how fast my head lifted to look at her. What did she mean by go? It was an accident.

"What? Mom, no. I'm fine. I've just been tired lately from school, and you know we have exams coming up, so I wasn't really focused, that's all. You know that control isn't an issue for me." I said with a smile on my face and waving my hand dismissing whatever she was saying.

"No, honey. Gladeen is a good school but it's not Anomia. Gladeen only teaches you the theories of magick but you don't use it." Mom explains.

Anomia East Magick is the greatest Magick school across the points. Anomia is the only school in Ultrum approved to train persons and their powers for offense and defense. They push you past your limits and help you create new ones to push past those. You learn power moves and how to combine moves with others. You don't just sit behind texts learning about history, or the other points but get to learn about what Magick really is. It was and still is my dream school. People are recruited, recommended, and are free to participate in a test held every year. I was recommended to the test at the age of 14 by my godfather or the Principal of Anomia East Magick, but my mom didn't let me go. I thought it was because she thought my godfather was showing favouritism, but the older I got the more suspicious I got of that reasoning.
