it was currently history, minji's fifth period class. she couldn't help but yawn at the 45 minute documentary playing in front of her, her thoughts everywhere but the gojoseon period.
it had been a little over three weeks since the bake sale incident, and minji still sulking over her lost opportunity, scolding herself for not labelling the boxes or taping the note to the box.
beside her, danielle was studiously taking notes, engrossed with the film that was being projected.
"psst, dani." minji whispered.
no reply.
"mo jihye." minji whispered a bit louder this time.
danielle's gaze shifted from the film towards minji, quirking her eyebrow up as a response.
"what are you doing afterschool?" minji started twirling the mechanical 0.5 pencil in her hand.
"heading straight home, why?"
"do you want to hang out? you can invite hanni if you want." minji asked hopefully, she had been itching to do something not school related the entire day.
danielle shook her head no slightly, her gaze falling back onto the documentary. "sorry, min, i can't. hanni's gonna come over later, so we're both busy."
a pregnant pause takes up the silence before danielle continues, "besides, there's like a 50% chance of rain."
"i doubt it'll even hit hybe high, don't worry about that so much."

okay, so maybe the rain did hit hybe high.
the heavy sound of rain, a cacophony of thousands of tiny droplets pitter-pattered insistently outside the school building.
through the tall, large windows of hybe high's school, the world outside was obscured by a translucent veil of water. the rain streaked down in rivulets, distorting the view into a dreamlike blur of greys and muted colours. it was interesting to see how the sky changed from a bright blue to moody grey within just two hours.
minji watched as students started flooding out of the building, some asking why she was still in the school. minji covered it up under the fake pretense of having a stuco meeting.
in reality, she just didn't bring an umbrella, and the thought of getting drenched on her way home was not something she wanted to entertain, so she opted to wait out the rain.
a loud clap of thunder echoed throughout the school, and reverberated its booming sound off the walls.
yeah, no. the rain definitely wasn't gonna stop anytime soon.
maybe minji could uber to her house instead? she thought about it, ultimately refusing because she didn't want to pay $20 for a 15 minute walk and bus ride.
damn, why'd her parents have to go out on another business trip.
light footsteps could be heard approaching minji, "unnie, why are you still here?"
minji looked up and found haerin standing in front of her.
"oh, uh... i-erm- had a stuco meeting.." minji coughed lightly at the end of her sentence. why couldn't she ever form proper sentences around haerin.
haerin held a look on her face that told minji she didn't believe her, "..okay?"
silence filled minji's ears again except for the sound of her own heart pounding away.
just when minji thought the conversation was no longer salvageable, haerin speaks up. "do you want to share an umbrella together?"
minji's eyes widened in surprise. thank you rain.
