Turning my gaze towards her, I try the more professional approach.
''The host, aka the target, is a middle-aged man. Black hair, slick back. He is often spotted wearing a white tux..''
I wait for her response, after a few seconds she nods in agreement, I continue,
'..If we spot him, we have to try to stay close to him without making it too obvious. His henchmen are most likely watching our every move''
She nods again.
''I guess our main objective is to act like we belong there'' she says softly.
''You mean like a rich couple.''
''I suppose'' She sighs as her expression saddens.
I nod. I feel uncomfortable with it as well. But like Price always says, the mission comes first. She has to suck it up, just like me.
The fact she looks beautiful right now does make it easier. If only her personality matched.
I see her fidgeting her locket as she twirls it between her small fingers.
''It will be fine,'' I say reassuringly, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
If we're stuck with each other for the whole night we might as well try to get along.
She nods slowly. She takes a small shaky breath, hesitating to speak the words.
''Yeah, it's just..''
''We're here'' The driver interrupts our conversation as the limousine comes to a halt.
Y/n quickly shuts her mouth. I let out an annoyed sigh.
Great timing mate.
I nod at the driver as I step out, walking over to y/n's side.
I slowly open the door, she grabs my hand gently as she steps out.
''Time to sell the bit'' I say softly to her, still holding her hand as I close the door.
She nods at me. Her gaze seems to have changed, looking way more determined.
''You ready, Darling?'' She says with a playful, slightly mocking tone.
I cringe a bit, but I decide to play along as a small smirk creeps on my face.
'After you, Love''
She rolls her eyes as I lift my hand a bit up. Hers gently lying in it as I guide her towards the mansion.
She lifts the side of her dress slowly with her free hand as she walks up the stairs.
I can't help but stare as I see a glimpse of her toned legs.
Y/N seems too focused on not tripping on this outside stairway to even notice anyway.
We make it inside. The guard just nodded at our forged invitation and let us through.
Good work Laswell.
We walk through a wide hallway. It is filled with artwork and marble statues.
The blood-red carpet matches the walls, which are accentuated with gold lines.
Bloody hell, this guy is loaded.
I nod politely at the passing couples. Focus, we can't make any mistakes.
The hallway leads us to an enormous open space.
The linoleum dance floor mirroring the couples already present in the ballroom, as they stand under the various glass chandeliers.
One wall of the ballroom is just windows as they give you a spectacular view of the high treetops surrounding the mansion.
I scan the room like an eagle soaring, I let my trained eye remember every important detail.
Henchmen are spotted in every corner. Black tuxes, full face masks, and earpieces. All have a pistol dangling on their belts.
I squeeze Y/N's hand gently, making her follow my gaze. She does and nods in understanding.
''Did you spot our friend yet?'' She asks softly.
I scan around more. ''I think he will make an appearance later, the night is still young''
She lets out an approving hum.
We stand with our backs to the wall as we watch the guests chat with each other.
''Shouldn't we mingle..?'' Y/N asks, her gaze focused on the dance floor.
''After you, Love''
''No way.''
I chuckle softly. ''Shy now aren't we?'' I tease
''As if''
''According to Soap, you used to be''
I regret my words instantly as she quickly turns her gaze towards me.
''What?'' She hisses annoyed.
''That you used to be way more shy'' I say, raising one eyebrow.
She lets out a sigh. She really does not want to talk about it.
But, I enjoy prying.
''You had a change of heart'' I smirk, trying to provoke her.
''Not now, Ghost'' She hisses. I want to tell her off for not calling me Lieutenant, but I let it slide considering the mission.
''Tell me. We have time to kill anyway'' I say with a teasing smirk.
A waiter walks around with a tray full of champagne, as he offers them to us.
We thank him politely as we both grab a flute.
I watch y/n take a sip first, swirling it around a bit.
''Gotta love rich people's booze'' She says playfully
I take a sip too. Man, this is the stuff.
''Just keep it to a minimum'' I say half joking.
She rolls her eyes. ''Like I would get drunk during a mission
''Only in your free time then?''
''Fuck off.''
I chuckle at her annoyed tone. ''God, you're easy to piss off''
''You got a talent for it''
''Do I, now?''
She hums. A silence falls between us.
''I will tell you about my trauma..'' She says suddenly.
I raise an eyebrow.
''..If you take off the mask'' she smirks.
''Not a chance, Love'' I reply, unamused.
She chuckles.
''You want to know all about me, but yet you refuse to tell me anything about you''
Her tone is playful as she stares into my eyes.
Gotta admit, she got me there.
Our conversation comes abruptly to an end when both our gazes turn to the small orchestra walking to the side of the ballroom.
''Oh no..'' I growl. Y/N looks at me confused.
"What's the deal?''
''Bloody hell..''
''Huh?''
I nod at the couples on the dance floor as they set down their empty glasses and get into position.
To dance.
I let out a loud grunt as I grab both our glasses, placing them on a nearby table.
''Move.'' I growl at y/n, as I grab her small hand in mine.
Before she can say anything. I drag her along as I get into position along with the other couples.
