I wasn't sure if I was any good at lying, but judging by Theodore's reaction, it seemed he was buying my explanation.

Lorenzo erupted into laughter. "Mhm."

I abandoned the search beneath the pillows and moved toward Lorenzo's desk, opening one of the drawers.

Suddenly, Lorenzo sprang up and gripped my arm firmly.

"Your necklace isn't here. Now, leave."

"No. I need my necklace."

"It's not here," Lorenzo asserted.

"It has to be."

"Lorenzo, mate, I've got to go. We're calm now, right?" Theodore interjected.

"Yeah, yeah. Safe," Lorenzo replied as Theodore exited the room.

Lorenzo's attention snapped back to me, and he leaned in for a kiss, which I reluctantly pulled away from, eliciting a frustrated groan from him.

"When did you become so friendly with Theodore?" I questioned.

Lorenzo chose his words carefully. "Let's just say we're helping each other out."

"Yeah, right." I scoffed, skeptically.

Turning away from him, I continued searching the drawer for my necklace.

"I'll buy you a new necklace, any you like," Lorenzo offered softly.

"I need this one. It meant a lot to me," I insisted, weaving a fictional tale about its sentimental value. In reality, Mattheo meant nothing to me, but this necklace could cost me my life.

"How so? Did someone special give it to you?"

"Yes, someone very special." I lie without any hesitation.

Lorenzo sighed and plopped down onto his bed, leaving me puzzled.

"What's the matter?" I asked.

"Why don't you go into his room and ask?" Lorenzo suggested cryptically.

"His? Who the fuck is 'his'?"

"The one who gave you the necklace."

My heart raced as realization dawned. "You have it. Give it here, now."

"No," Lorenzo replied firmly, standing his ground. "No I wont. Because I'm not an idiot."

"Where is it?" I pressed, desperation creeping into my voice.

"None of your concern," Lorenzo retorted.

"It is my concern! It's my necklace," I asserted firmly.

"You dirty little liar," Lorenzo laughed before adopting a more serious tone. "It's my mother's necklace." He produced the same yellow-gold necklace from his pocket.

My eyes widened in sheer shock. Mattheo had given me Lorenzo's mother's necklace?

"I didn't know Mattheo was that important to you, princess," Lorenzo smirked knowingly.
